Hi from Yorkshire

You can pick up portable plug in induction hobs for around £30. If you have one built in & it goes faulty, you have to replace it like for like to fit the hole in the worktop. Same would apply to a gas hob, but if you stick to mainstream suppliers like Smev/Dometic etc, you’ll easily replace a gas hob easily & cheaply. The induction hobs are still in their infancy. It’s your call, I’m just being the pessimistic Yorkshireman.
Ditching the fitted hob would also give you more usable worktop space, which is a valuable commodity IMO.

Not too sure about that @Salty Spuds - commercial induction hobs have been around since the early 70s and domestic ones have become increasingly been popular since the turn of the millennium. They're hardly unproven tech.

Yup, we had a very early one back in the 80’s. I was referring to the more recent cheap portable type. You can get them in Aldi’s isle of dreams for a few quid. I wouldn’t want to base my conversion around one, especially one that was going to get rattled around in a van.

I’m sort of 75% just sticking with the standard build. I’ll go have a look at one that they’ve done already tomorrow. I suppose my main thinking was I don’t want to have to have it done as an after thought as it would be even more expensive to strip out and then fit. Some good advice here though and I’m a wild camper in the mountains at heart so this is luxury what ever I choose.

Fair enough.

What's your opinion on whether a portable induction hob (suitably packed in the van) is likely to fair better than one fixed in a side kitchen? I'm thinking the portable might survive for longer, with the added benefits stated above (i.e. easier/ cheaper to replace, additional worktop space available, internal and external hob use, etc.).

I’ve been tempted with the portable ones, especially the aforementioned Aldi specials. Worth a punt for £30. But then I thought, we have to store it somewhere, and then we’re into having special pans & kettle to work on it (lightweight aluminium doesn’t, and some flavours of stainless). So I gave up on it.

Hi all,
I am handlng my company car in later this year and decided not to renew as it is costing me a fortune in tax and since covid I don’t travel much for work anymore. I fancied something different so we hired a T5 for 4 days earlier in the year to try out the VW to see if they were suitable for us as a camper as well as a daily driver and we really enjoyed it. I have since been using the forum to help in my search for a campervan researching pros and cons, what to look for etc. To cut a long story short we are now t he proud owners of a silver 2017 T6 Highline SWB fully converted. Although much lighter in the pocket we are excited to get away in a few weeks on our first trip to try it out.

Hi to all van owners...

Just treat myself to a 2016 T6 Caravelle and first job is a visit to Steve at CRS and some 20's. Looking forward to learning more about these vans.

Good first move.

Hello Forum!

Picking up my first T6 later this week, so will have a fair few questions no doubt!

First one is: what tracker would people recommend? I had a Skytag on my old defender which was good, but offered no real time info so would like something that would let me see where the vehicle is at any time.

Cheers
Col

MetaTrak for me.
