How cold is your Aircon ?

I’d say mine needs to be at 9 o clock position (well into the blue) before it feels cool. All the way into the blue never feels ice cold. Does this sound normal ? Or do I need it checked (whilst still in warranty) ?
Thanks

Yeah - mine doesn't 'freeze' the air so much as cool it down just enough for the dog to be comfy.
It has just had the 2year regassing also so nothing 'wrong' with it.

I think if you had a bulkhead it would work more effectively (much smaller area to cool down/heat up) but it is what it is.

Mine's probably 9/10 cold, not as good as a new car but fairly cold, but it hasn't been re-gassed in the 5 years I've owned it.
If we ever have a summer this year I might consider getting it done.

Is yours a converted panel van? My van is and I never always find the aircon poor, but then realise its probably designed with the bulkhead in place and only has to cool a small volume of air. Rip the bulkhead out and it has to deal with 5-6 times as much.

Thanks guys, I hadn’t considered the aircon maybe be designed with a bulkhead in place. I was just thinking the air temp on cold is higher than cars I’ve owned.

It'll take longer to cool down the air inside the van as there's a larger volume compared to a car.

Mines great, but then it's the full climate control so I just set it to 20 degrees and it does the rest. I think my Caravelle also has an air con unit in the back feeding the roof vents, as it's tri-zone climate control.

Not cold at all , in fact mine has had to be regassed twice in 3¹/² years I've owned it. Our Audi A3 has never been regassed in 11 years.

If it’s designed to work with a bulkhead then is there a different design used when the van is manufactured without a bulkhead but without the higher spec climate control systems? Say like a shuttle?

My van was originally a Kombi so it never had the original bulkhead. The A/C is nowhere near as good as our Mini's which is 3 years older, both never been regassed. I'm told it gets particularly warm in the back even with the A/C on full speed but as I'm always driving, I wouldn't notice. It's a very large space in a LWB to cool with standard A/C.

The shuttle and caravelle versions (and possibly California) have rear blowers at minimum, and some have rear Aircon units. Basically proper people movers (Vs the kombi which is just a van with extra seats) have more blower and/or air conditioning capacity.

If its the same as the mk7 golf's, a3 ect there are 2 modes for ac. One for mild climates and one for where the sun shines. Has to be done through the obd port though.

Judging the efficiency of the air-con by the cab temperature is a tad mis-leading. Many things can influence the temperature that the cab gets to. As already mentioned, removing the bulkhead makes a huge difference, as does adding glass, insulation etc. The general test for whether the aircon is working or not is to test the air temperature coming from the dash vents when the aircon is on lowest temperature setting, medium fan speed & on recirculation. Give it about 10 mins & measure the air temp coming from the vents, it should be around 6degC give or take. If this is the case, then the aircon is working & the cab temp is down to external environmental factors.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but I definitely think my AC in my T6.1 isn't as good (cold ) as in my previous T6. I'm also sure someone on here said the whole AC unit is a much lower spec/output than previous Transporters.

Mine was ice cold, then it suddenly wasn't! My local indy garage found that the AC pipe from the front (near the radiator) has a small hole which looks like it's chaffed on something else so it's lost pressure and no longer works. Anyone else had this? It's not cheap or easy to replace - quoted £480 for parts and labour!!!

My 22 plate pv with aftermarket bulkhead is ace.....ice cold on my right hand as its right near the vent but my left hand is a considerably cooler due to the vent being further away and the angle it extends to.:(
My 16 plate camper is pretty good too:cool:not quite as good as my pv but it has more space to cool.

I'm in Australia and my air-conditioning is fine. As usual the slower you set the fan speed the cooler the air from the vent is.
If the fan is on high speed the air never feels as cold.
It will probably never be as cold as a car interior due to the large volume of air in a van.
We blow the air directly on us to cool down but don't often carry passengers in the back.
