How does a post Covid-19 world look?

My guess is that these shoppers say it’s too dangerous to go back to work or send their kids back to school

a really sad reflection of some of the UK
I was thinking exactly this when there must have been half the local secondary school messing in and around a river in the local country park.

Wales is still in lockdown, and can only drive 5 miles to visit family.
Restrictions are being lifted slowly over the next few weeks.

6th July static caravan site owners can open up, and self-contained holiday accommodation can take bookings from 13th July.

One of the many benefits of having a regional office in North Wales is I have to visit once a month to wet sign paperwork.
This was Friday. Even on a wet day North Wales is still stunningly beautiful.

Just had a quick read back through this, considering where we are now and some very interesting and pretty accurate predictions by some members.

I thought it would be interesting to see peoples opinions on how this planet will look once we are in a position to claim the current Corona-Virus (Covid-19) is behind us. These types of threads can be really interesting to read through in the years to come, just to see how accurate our predictions were as the general public and not scientists, leaders or fact distorting journalists, just real people.

For me, i've spent weeks, and now coming up to months glued to the news channels and websites, which might not be the best thing to do during a crisis, but that's me. There has been big chatter about how we come out of this predicament, and I guess no one will know exactly until after, so every hypothesis we read or debate is exactly that for the time being.
One thing i've learnt is not to take anything for granted. Things we never thought would be implicated in a modern world are now just a daily reality. Who'd of thought that a developed country like Britain would have it's liberty removed pretty much over night, and the vast majority of the county to respect that, and uphold these new rules, even embrace them as the current new order. But, where next?

Are we looking at the new future, or will everything just slot back to how it was? Is it realistic to imagine that this will be the whack in the ass the world needed to finally take things far more seriously, or is that just the current thought simply because it physically feels, and visually looks better to all of us. It's been said that the sky has never been this Blue and the air hasn't been this clean for decades, shown that the oceans have never been this calm in the modern world, albeit with an underlying hue of what we've done. Does wildlife look far more prevalent, or is it just because we didn't have the time to notice it before.

All amazing side effects of the current order, but my thought is it will just drop back to how it was sadly. I don't think it's realistic to think all of this can be sustainable, and I hate to admit that. We are not yet in a position to scrap all the smoke bellowing old busses, cars and vans on the roads and swap to far cleaner vehicles. Judging by how glitchy and slow connections have been on almost all the interviews i've watched on the BBC news that are done remotely, our broadband isn't ready for a mass switch to working from home. Reading how desperate consumers are to get to any shop that is aloud to open, even if that means potentially risking their lives in some circumstances, we are not in a position to side step a certain counties cheap plastic crap and start to produce things ourselves.

I could be wrong of course. We might of learnt hard lessons. Governments might be far more prepared next time, and there will be a next time. People might even be more considerate of each other. Only time will tell and all this is just hypothesizing, but an interesting topic.
Just reading this now in 2024.
Its actually quite a shock how the world's turned out isn't it @Tourershine.
It reads like one of those documentaries filmed in the 1960s where they ask school kids what they think the world will look like in the year 2000 .
As a Nurse and former camper builder I have to say I saw both sides of this pandemic and when it first hit I genuinely thought we were all goners....I really did.
Mad how it has got measurably worse and how all our priorities changed.
How about yourself mate? How do you feel things have changed? Be interested to know your thoughts as the o.p.

We were talking about this in the office a few weeks back, for us (contractors in O&G engineering) things have actually improved quite a bit, from doing 5 days a week in the office, usually with heaps of overtime with never a chance to work from home because we can't be trusted, to now doing 2 days in the office and 3 at home it has most certainly improved our standard of life by a big margin,

I would never want to go back to doing 5 days a week in the office, getting to spend so much more time with the family, doing the school runs etc we've never dreamt of doing before.

My thoughts on a post pandemic world, which is a very subjective one.

I'm a strong pessimist now. I only see the worst in human behaviour and how far things have dropped since the pandemic. Maybe it's my age and I'm just yearning for a remote house in the middle of the French countryside where I can literally close my gates to other humans when I want to, or maybe it's the barrage of bad news rammed down our throats on a daily basis.

In my experience, people have changed. The younger generation has changed, the older generation has changed. Not for the better sadly. Today's post pandemic era is not an improvement on the pre pandemic, again, in my opinion. I feel sorry for my daughters 18 and 22 because the best years are well and truly past us I think. This might not be a direct result of the pandemic, but Covid seems to be mentioned constantly when it comes to excuses for life as it is now.

Hopefully we will see a change in government in the next few weeks and although this won't fix everything in one term, it might make things seem like they are improving. Who knows, maybe I should comment on that subject in several years.

Yep what's left for the young? Granted we aren't a war torn country

but given life was on pause for 2-3 years education and the hospitality sector (where young predominately work) was the worst hit,and housing is non achievable for the 1st time in generations the government and society certainly have their work cut out.

Heck gen z want the 80s back
