Same with our last place - 5 bed property in 5 acres of land. We're still in touch with the landlord there who lived next to us.

Is it still up for rent?

Cheapest 5 bed place to rent within 40 miles of my work is £900pcm. Add in criteria that it needs to be in a reasonably nice location, and it goes up a few hundred. Our mortgage is around £700pcm so clearly it doesn't make sense for us to rent.

(Which also puts you at the whim of the landlord, if they have life changing circumstances such as divorce, they kick you out to sell the home you're living in!)

I say good on ya @Buggirl. I know loads of people that live on narrow boats, they are some of the most relaxed folk I've ever known. So I for one hope it brings you the fulfilment you seek. I spend my life juggling work with a significant house renovation project, and constantly ask myself "is it worth it"? Especially when I keep injuring myself doing up this blooming place. However it gives me safe space for my children. But once they are older and making their own way in life, reckon I'd love to get my hands on something quirky like a house boat (couldn't get a narrow boat I'd end up with the worse posture in the world, or some bloody big dents in the top of my swede).
