Insurance popularity question

God i hate it when insurance comes around...2022 LWB H/line PV 4M 199ps with mods declared...last years £520 with Axa...
Flux £767...40 minutes on the blower yawn yawn yawn..."is that your best price?"...."it is at this particular moment with this underwriter"...."what about with other underwriters?""we can only offer otther underwriters if you come back yo us with a cheaper price elsewhere"...yeah right..
Howden £520, two yawns...
Brentacre £490....8 minutes on the blower, no yawns..
Carole Nash...£555.94 pa if paid in full....but...£465 if paid by instalments...i queried that twice with them and she said it sometimes comes out like that....ok i thought but they are making a right cock up....
Got the feeling Carole Nash are a complete amateur outfit with very poor insurance 'specialists'!! All they are doing is reading stuff off a script but they struggle to do that at times...i did mostly understand what they were saying though! :uh run:I Feel like i'm taking a big risk with thesee guys so hopefully it will not be needed.!

Why is it that only some will email the quotes through and others refuse to? CBA?

Oh well..sorted for another year and half a day of my life gone in the process.

Insurance time wahooo

Only tried 2 thisevening with wild difference. London location for info.

Last Year - Admiral | £1659.29 for both van and home on a multicover policy. £1000 excess on the van (ouch)

This year's quotes..... Due on 10th December

Comparison Sites -
Rubbish - lowest quotes coming in at £1800.00 van only.

LV - Multicover for van and home | £1556.47 - saving of £102.82. Not bad, and actually surprised my costs are lower. £500 excess on van (better).
Aviva - Just a quote for van | £3551.00 - increase of £1892.00 - No thanks
Swinton - Just van with silly excesses | £2027.00
Carole Nash - No quote as I use van for biz as well
Keith Michaels - No quote as London postcode
NFU - Same as above
Brentacre - Same as above
Performance Direct through Sabre - £2627.00 van only
Direct Line - Just van £3242.00
Adrian Flux - £2235.14

Will keep editing and updating as I call around tomorrow just for a nice commentary.

Right so in the end I’ve ended up staying with Admiral for £1448.00
Covers updated suspension as it’s not specifically a ‘sports’ kit - koni shocks and h&r springs, whereas LV wanted an extra £150.00 to cover ‘suspension changes’

Quit the multi policy and gone elsewhere for home.

Summary - still getting shafted. Yay.

Speaking of Adrian Flux, I have had the pleasure of speaking to them again with regard to my Wifes 10 year old Evoque. LV have pushed the premium again this year from £691 to £820 and I thought how nice it would be to have all our family cars/vehicles with AF. As it happened, they wanted £1100 for the Evoque, stuff that!
The more mature lady at AF said you've done right by calling well before the insurance is due because it is always cheaper that way. She recommended next year to call them 50 days before the policy renewal is due to get the best deals. Most insurers don't do 50 days, but if you're with AF, get in well early, they say... I was 24 days before my policy on the van and it was £150 cheaper than last year. You will be over a barrel if you leave it to the last minute.
Get in early folks, you know it makes sense!
I just phoned Adrian Flux - 50 days before van renewal date - and they were only prepared to hold the price if I purchased there & then. As I haven't even got the renewal invitation from my current insurer, I would only consider doing that if they were offering a price too good to miss. They weren't, so I didn't.

For info...
Last year's premium from Comfort was £658 for 8k miles per annum on a new-for-old basis.
This year's quote from Adrian Flux was £719 for 8k miles per annum on a Market Value basis (AV add-on was an extra £150).

I did well last year, I'm expecting to be had over this year. It all feels so 'lotteryesque' doesn't it!

I don't know how accurate it is but I read an article from Money Savings Expert last week indicating that car insurance premiums were down by around 19% this year. My van insurance with AF isn't due for renewal until the beginning of July but I was thinking of starting to phone around next month to see what's on offer. I paid quite a lot this year (due to two claims over the past 4 years) and I'd like to see it go down for the next year if possible but I would also like to move the date for renewal so that it comes around earlier. On the downside, I've had my 70th birthday since the last time and I suspect that will count against me as well.

Just renewed my insurance with Howdens (APlan). Last year was £399, this year’s renewal was £568, I shopped around & found a very similar, if not slightly better policy with Hiscox, phoned Howdens back & they dropped the price to £464 to match.

Comfort gave me a great price on my new van right up until the moment I went to pay They wanted to insure me at new for old at the list price of the van which was £22k more than I paid for it. £176 more than they’d been quoting me for 4 months.

Told them to do one and went for Caravanguard who came in £150 cheaper.

I hate insurance time with a passion.
Why is it there's no loyalty for a returning customer ? And why do they only " see if they can do anything" with the price when you say I've had a cheaper quote and I'm off ??
Indeed. If I dont get their keenest quote at first time of asking I walk out of sheer principle. If enough people did that they wouldn't be so quick to try it on, but people don't seem to want to.

Insurance companies are't the only ones. I've had similar experiences with BT for broadband and E-on of electricity over the last couple of weeks. I had emails from both with 'personalised unbeatable special offers' which were more expensive than others that I had found (in BTs case, more than I was actually paying them at the time!) and when I actually came to cancel, they tried to get me to entice me with even cheaper deals. I told both of them that if they had made their best offers in the first place, we might not have had to have the conversation but they were now too late.

I've had similar experiences. I usually say something on the lines of "is that your best price, because if you say it is & I get a better price elsewhere, I'm not coming back to you to play the, I'll speak to my manager game, last chance..."

Just been quoted £550~ from Brentacre, £300 less than the renewal from A-plan.
Was quoted £774 from Adrian Flux but with worse t&cs.
Had a couple other quotes that ranged from £900-£1100

Was quoted £334 by LV for my 2018 camper. Phoned to accept only to be told LV DON'T DO CAMPERVANS ANY MORE...renewal declined by LV! Shopped around; Admiral was about £900 as was NFU. Ended up with Caravan Guard for about £650. Never heard of them but was desperate. Hope I have done the right thing......

Yes this is the best way. Often I won’t even bother. Had an ‘auto renew deal’ for my home insurance which was TRIPLE what I paid despite zero claims.

Politely told them to f*** off

I never ever put anything on auto renew. Make them work for it. Insurance companies are like politicians, gotta keep them moving. Don’t be taken for granted.

I never do either and this email acted like I had done. Even more reason to tell them to f*** off

This is interesting. I’ve been with LV for a few years now and renewal time is a couple of months off. I knew they’d stopped new policies for campers a while back but they did at least let me renew - I always shopped around anyway but LV were always the cheapest.
Will be a bit gutted if they don’t renew as I’ll be worse off based on previous quotes.

Just had renewal from Adrian flux £520 5k miles per year £20 lower than last year and AV is an extra £15 same as last year
Edit: included in that price was £33.88 for protected no claims bonus
