I ended up on this site tonight :
Glen Etive the Dirty Truth
That is one depressing picture, and from my own experience it's not just Glen Etive. I also know it's not just vans, it's allsorts - the problem (apart from the littering) is that responsible van owners and campers will get tarred with the same brush. Last year was the busiest I've seen it in the Highlands, but it had been getting busier prior to covid. At times last summer there were too many vans, a lot of which would normally have been abroad somewhere. I'd love to think when we get back to normal the Highlands will become peaceful and tidy again, but I'm not so sure, and I think any lifting of travel restrictions abroad might be too late for this summer.
I'm concerned this is going to result in camping and parking restrictions of some sort, the other side is I don't actually want to park up in my van in my usual spots if I'm going to be surrounded by others who are irresponsible, I don't use campsites but have never once left any sort of litter or waste behind, and I buy what I can when I'm there, I try and put some money back. I'm in the Highlands for hillwalking and climbing so I respect the land, I'm not going to spoil it.
I'm not sure if there's a solution....
Just a note on my terminology : I occasionally overnight up the hills in a tent which I call camping, when I stay in my van overnight I call it 'parking overnight',
