Avon skin so soft works for me! Can pick it up next to the smudge stuff so must work!

We used Avon So-soft but heard rumours that Avon had changed the recipe and had removed whatever was repelling the midges.
This may or may not be true, but we did get a few bites and a lot of midge hassle at some places.
The locals were all recomending Smidge as the best stuff to get.

We only saw midges on one morning but they soon disappeared once the wind and rain came back, which wasn't very long :(

We stayed at Sands at Gareloch last week. Would be a good place to stop for all NC500 people. Out of the village and right on the beach. Windy enough for no midgies at all

Avon lady called last night so 2 bottles of Avon Skin So Soft ready. 1 Bottle of Smidge already bought too!
:)

IMG_2857.JPG We stayed at The Sands a few weeks ago, we just turned up, plenty of space.

If you want electric hookup you may need a very long cable though, there are no set pitches and we had to park quite a long way from the mains connection. Reception will hire you an extension lead though.

When we were there was definitely a divide in the campsite though, the non dune location was much quieter and relaxed.

SSS has pretty much disappeared from use. Smidge is now what all the locals use

I should emphasise that although midges are a complete pain when they are around, they can't fly in winds over 4kmh. There are not many days, especially on the west coast, when it's that still so you would be unlucky to be affected that much.

I lived up on the west coast all of my teens and there weren't many times the midges were unbearable. The clegs were a nightmare on inland lochs though!

Ps...is it worth putting the bike rack on and taking 2 bikes?
SWMBO will only ride max 20 miles and preferably no hills!!!
Is it easy to walk/bus around on the route?
Many thanks

We are currently in Seaview campsite in Benderloch.
Highly recommended. It is just north of Oban and close to some amazing castles.

We visited Castle Stalker on Friday.... most commonly known for being the French castle from Monty Pythin and the Holy Grail. Absolutely great trip.
:)

Hi - will look at map.
We are heading up to Inverness on Tues and up the East coast to JOG.
First night at Dornoch and then on to the Gin Distillery at Dunnet!!

Enjoy!:think smile bounce:

Just back from our 2 weeks in the far North.
10 good days out of 14 so great result weather wise!
Too cold for midges so lots of smidge left for next time.
Fab experience with some great views and roads to drive the T6 around.
Thoroughly recommend it and thanks for all the advice/recommendations etc
