OEM plastic underbody trim/covers

When mine cracks I'll just weld it back together ( provided all the pieces are there and I can find the correct plastic rod for the plastic ).

I would definitely replace it as it protects and keeps your underbody cleaner . When ever I have removed mine I notice how clean the area is compared to the back of the van.

I replaced mine when this happened, as VW put it there for a reason.
Given how focused they seem on saving money, it’s an obvious thing not to put on the van if it has no purpose.

Pete

I think vw put it there so they can sell us all replacement ones !
I've recently replaced mine after going through an unavoidable puddle , had to replace one on my t5.1 too . It arrived broken at the dealer ( really brittle ) .

If your van has been lowered it’s going to increase the risk of ripping them off in water.
I have a T32 with stock running gear and I’ve been through fairly deep flood water without any issues. 30MPH creates 9x more drag than 10MPH, it’s worth slowing down.

I definitely agree with AussieMick. I've taken this off to do an oil change and to replace the transmission oil. The first thing that I noticed was how well it had shielded everything from all the usual gunk that manages to get plastered to the underside. Some of the components looked almost new. You can buy a replacement tray on the Internet for less than £60.

***Posted this on an existing night heater thread but probably best on here.. Policies for duplication***

Could I ask if you know the part number of the attached picture. The red circled area on mine has cracked and split and I'm looking to replace.

On all the diagrams on the ones I've seen it's slightly unclear whether it's a left or right hand drive and therefore what orientation the the van parts are laid out in (I think?!). For reference I'm sure it is this part pictured which is essentially on the nearside of the van under the side door.

TPS were reasonably helpful but I know the under carriage can vary slightly from model to model so they wouldn't commit to which part I actually need unless I have a part number set against the reg.

Hope this all makes sense!!

Assuming that’s not yours (if they are then you’re looking for a part number starting with a ‘7’ followed by a letter and then six or so numbers, such as 7E0 825 208 A), these may help -

As Ads_Essex said, there should be a part number moulded in the plastic on it.
Yeah I have been looking for the part number and even had it up on the ramp so I'm guessing it's cracked off?!

Is it correct that there's several variations of this cover hence different codes even though they are essentially the same thing and have the same/similar function?

Have you had it off the van and looked inside it. If the picture is your undertray then you have obviously looked already.

From memory, the part number is “inside” the tray. You need to remove it to see it.

Pete

No this isn't my tray just saw it on another post and the box section looked familiar. I shall take it off and have a look!

You can drive around without it in place. I had to rip ours off at the roadside after it folded under the vehicle. It took 2 weeks to get a replacement from the dealer.

Pete

I'm probably over complicating this massively but reading other threads people seem to be having the same issue in so far as there are a number of exploded diagrams which detail the under carriage....
However! They only show left hand drive countries of origin which begs the question is everything underneath the vehicle a mirror image as we are right hand drive?!
Struggling to get under as its lowered so a trip to a mates ramp is going to occupy my day today!

Don’t worry about other people‘s vans. Just get your damaged part off, read the part number, and buy a new one from VW. Post the details here afterwards please :)

Can you recommend where to buy online. I have just cracked the front passenger piece that covers the adblue tank on a t6.1..

Any tips where to buy would be great.
