Opinions On Crafter Price.

Thank you. I have just been stitched up by the dealer. I was going to go a van when I realised that another branch had the 18 plate up for£21500 + vat and they would also ply it. I decided that that was a better deal but the branch I was using had been nice so I asked if they could transfer the van to themselves and I would buy it from them as like I say they had done all the work on finance etc. They told me they couldn’t as because I had spoken to the other branch it was unethical to go behind his back.
I told them to just give me a day to have a think as it’s a big purchase. The next day I called the other dealer with the 18 plate van to talk to him as I did like it he then told me it has been transferred to the branch I was dealing with?. So I called them back and they told me it has been put into there stock and is still for sale but wait for this the price has increased by 2K .
Cheek of it! I trust you laughed and told them you were no longer interested?

I have asked why I was advised that there van was a better deal when it clearly wasn’t and also why they transferred it from under me so that I couldn’t buy it. The problem I have is it has to be 140 or more trendline and also blue. There aren’t many around and they now have 2 that I liked. It’s ethically and morally appalling. I have asked for my deposit to be refunded and am going to have a think about it.

One option it to speak to the manager and tell him how very unprofessional and misleading they have been and they they should honour the deal that the others g branch gave me before it was transferred.

How very nice and ethical of them.
Treat any VW dealer as you would a scorpion. I would make a point of not buying anything ever again from these dealers, or from VW for that matter. How about a Merc Sprinter? Mercedes have a far better emissions control system that doesn't slurp adblue and limp into regen mode every 90 miles.
Always remember that you are buying a van, not trying to make new friends. As you have just found out, the salesman is not a friend despite their outward behaviour towards you.

I should have just when to the other branch and bought and said nothing to them. I was just trying to be fair but as you say it’s probably back fired on me. I like the merc but ther are hardly any new shape used around as they are do new but I will call int my dealer and have a chat. Thanks

In fact, use the broker and get yourself a new Sprinter for what you were going to pay for the used Crafter
Do not get drawn into the trap of thinking you will get better backup and swcurity if you buy from a dealer. Example...in 2014 VAG UK cocked up the configurator and Transporter Highlines were being delivered with no cruise control VW offered to retrofit a crummy bit of tat that looked like it came from a Christmas Cracker with none of the integration you get with the factory fit cruise. Dealers refused point blank to retro fit factory cruise with excuses from not possible to your van will catch fire. My van was affected and I bought from a broker. Broker paid for a professional retrofit from HazyDayz no arguments. Had I bought from a dealer I would have been shafted.
Use a broker and buy a Merc. VW Have serious issues with the emissions from that diesel engine and you will forever be in EGR/DPF purgatory.

That is very helpful thank you. My T6 is the euro 5 140 so hadent thought anything about the add blue part but have seen posts on the forum about it. Any recommendations on brokers?.

If you opt for a Crafter, make sure to get latest ECU software update. The update was released only a few weeks ago and it should cure SCR NOx efficiency hiccup. Patch for T6 still pending :speechless:

I have used Nationwide Cars twice and cannot fault them. Price advertised was the price I paid, no sneaky fees or uplifts.
Van was delivered by a VW main dealer.
I'd second that, I've also used Nationwide for a car in the past and it was a completely smooth transaction

Thank you all. I have told the main dealer to stick there vans and the way they do business is appalling. Thank you all again. One last question Full sat nave or App connect which is standard on the trendline?.

Seconded. Appconnect gives you up to date maps and speedcam warnings etc. Factory nav ties you into the 200 quid annual update and is not the best.
Compare used values of the crafter and Sprinter. Mercs Blue Efficiency technology actually works. VWs efforts to get Euro6 compliance are totally shonky. When selling used, the Merc will attract more interest. I can honestly see VW heading for a big fall given the recent emissions crisis and the erosion of quality in all aspects of the product..
Let us know what you order...

I will do thanks for all your advice it will be the new year when I order.

Found this review about MAN vans (they are actually VW crafters!)
MAN TGE van review

As I said they are the same van with a different badge, they are supplied directly by the manufacturer with no sales agents (Same as MAN Trucks), this means that when they want the business the price is right as there are no dealer margins, just a fee paid to the supplying dealer to cover PDI & admin.

The other difference is that they can be looked after by the MAN network who are truck oriented and work hard to keep you mobile rather than car orientated where waiting times can be much longer. It's also a new product so the pressure is on their dealers to work hard impressing their new van customers.

The only downside is that the dealers are more industrious than luxurious (think wholesale rather than retail), they think that they won't get many Crafter retail customers because they will be intimidated by a truck dealership when the reality is that when they work it out customers will go where the service is rather than a gin palace without.

I know my view seems a bit one sided but I really think this is the best kept secret in the sprinter/crafter sized van world.

So I have managed to get down to 2 options. The best deal of all is from nationwide cars for a new on with all extras but the monthly payment and lead time isn’t going to work for me so it’s going to have to be used.

I have managed to get the 67 177 highline down from 21999 +vat to 20750+vat and another £300 for P/x reducing monthly payment £25 PM saving £1500.

The options I have are as below

140 trendline
67 January 2018 reg, 11550 miles
With A/C
I wold have to travel to London to collect so a long trip.

Or

The 177 highline
67 December 2017, 9500 miles
NO A/C (this is the thing that is concerning me especially for resale).
But on top of the Trendline I get.

1,Fog lights with cornering function
2,177
3,comfort + seat so 2 armrest and electric lumber
4, Heated windscreen
5, Adaptive CC instead of standard CC
6,Mud flaps
They will also include 2 free services in the deal.

Q,
When I come sell it on which in your opinions it the more desirable and will the extras on the Highline out way the lack of Air con?.
Also dose the reg date make a difference ie,
(67) December 2017 on the Highline (67) January 2018 on the Trendline
Your opinion will help me get this sorted. Thanks

For me, no air con is a deal breaker.
However, IMHO....

I actually think that unless it’s a keeper, resale values in four to five years time are going to be horrendously knocked out of kilter by emissions/alternative fuel legislation/lack of buyers wanting diesels etc.
So buy the van that does what you need/want, don’t worry about residuals.

The Highline has some great features, heated windscreen, acc and comfort seat but AC is the deal breaker for me with that huge windscreen and if like me you do plenty of hours in the van I couldn’t do without it. Highlines must be as rare as hens teeth as they couldn’t of sold many before they stopped producing them.

AC would be a dealbreaker for me too, I couldn’t have lived without it the last few summers and it’s only going to get hotter in the future. I would never even consider any vehicle that didn’t have it.
