Phillips H4 LED bulbs, any T6 reviews?

Can anyone explain to me the purpose of the "cover"/"deflector"/"shroud" that is in front of the bulb inside the headlight? You can see it clearly on the right photo that was posted by Brae a few posts up.

I am thinking of removing it as the beam pattern and light from a H4 cant get worse...
Remove it and you will have no dip beam at all.

I did this 'mod' to a FIAT 127 many years ago (now they were shocking lights!) They did improve the light output slightly but the dipped pattern was a bit more fuzzy. As Zombie says, they prevent the light scatter for oncoming drivers.

Interesting reading though no solution here for the dreadful T6 H4 headlights.
I contacted VW cutomer services yesterday asking whether VW had any solution (modification) for the useless H4 headlights where they simply advised I consult my local dealer.
For a company of VW's standing this is fricking useless and I (we VW T6 users) deserve better.

Well after 8 months with running the Philips racing vision to improve "VISION" over heating must've happened and caused the damage to both sides

The plastic is damaged by the heat of the bulb. Not much you can do to repair it. Looks exactly the same as my neighbours 15 year old Renault Clio. I saw a fair few T5's at camper jam with same problem running the lightbar headlights.
