Glasses on, lovely photos
i will test it out on my daughters giving themnthe original image@Ghost. I can't make up my mind whether it's your really bad eyesight or really good imagination! Either way, I suspect you must see weird things everywhere.

The midges could well be on best behaviour in October having had a summer of exhausting annoyance of pleasure seekers! Spend more time on the West, and try and do Skye for a day at least! Get some Avon skin so soft just in case!nc500 in my plans for Oct together with Northumberland and Lake District
@Drive Wayne welcome any and all the tips. it will be a solo trip. iam retired so will just amble from place to place. Skye is in the plan, so is Mull as i have a friend who lives there. Contemplating Orkney and Shetland but they maybe next time. i can see this becoming an an annual eventThe midges could well be on best behaviour in October having had a summer of exhausting annoyance of pleasure seekers! It was and still is the best 1500 mile round trip of our lives but we rushed it in 9 days, I envy your retirement! that seems to be the general opinion or take it as far a Dornoch and cut across to the Kyle if TongueDon't bother with the east coast, stick to the north but mainly the West coasts.
If you do want to do the full circuit, do it anti-clockwise, not clockwise, then your experience will just get better and better instead of gradually more disappointing.
We enjoyed the east coast for reasons different to the west. The east has some nice places such as Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle, little harbours like Staxigo, Latheronwheel (free stopover), Lybster harbour (free stopover) and Whaligoe Steps and loads of dramatic rocky coastline. Castle Sinclair at Noss Head.that seems to be the general opinion or take it as far a Dornoch and cut across to the Kyle if Tongue
I can see this becoming an annual event so I am going to do the East coast and next explore the Cairngorms next, as i love hiking both in the mountains and coastal paths. Think my kids will expect the JoG photo shoot so anticipate that too.We enjoyed the east coast for reasons different to the west. The west is stunning for its beaches and bays. If you’ve got a month then I’d say don’t neglect the East. If you don’t like it just keep on driving, but we like it. We’ve done the East coast again this year after we had 5 days on Mull (would have stayed on the West but the weather turned dreadful).
Also (although not sure if they will remain into October) there are loads of dolphin and basking shark sightings at the moment on the east coast from those harbours and also from The Trinkie.
I wouldn’t bother with John o Groats, unless you want the obligatory photo of yourself stood next to a sign in a car park. Go to Duncansby Head instead and walk along the coast to the Stacks.
Take some decent binoculars.
Also, don’t neglect the Black Isle at the start. We love the beach at Rosemarkie and there’s a chance to see the dolphins up close at Chanonry point (research tide times etc on google) and then a little trip to Cromarty. We don’t book sites etc, for the trip, but as a start for the east coast we stay at Fortrose Bay campsite then you can walk to watch the dolphins, walk along the beach to Rosemarkie and get a few bees and some food etc. makes a nice start to the trip.I can see this becoming an annual event so I am going to do the East coast and next explore the Cairngorms next, as i love hiking both in the mountains and coastal paths. This will be my first extended tour and as a Widower slightly nervous of the solo travel so all advice massively welcome
The Black Isle is in the NC500 book and is in the plan. Aim to stay at Fortrose camping site. cannot waitAlso, don’t neglect the Black Isle at the start.
