Please explain me SFD2 security

Hello Guys,

I contacted Kufatec regarding some hardware requirements to retrofit power folding mirrors.

The response was, they only offering retrofit on site for my vehicle because of SFD2 protocol.

Is it means the coding via VCDS is not an option anymore?

I retrofitted a genuine towbar and it worked but after upgrading VCDS the software was not able to access the module and the towbar throw a fault code on the last scan.

Could it be related to the SFD2?

If you are talking about your Transporter then I didn’t think they used SFD at all, only come across golf8 that uses it ?
SFD requires modules to go online and be unlocked before changes can be made

It is very strange why they said thet. SFD2 was introduce in 2024 and my one is a 2017. I sent a message them to double check it

If you have to explain the technology ( i.e. my vehicle is not on that system) to a technology company I would go elsewhere.

To be honest. They not even apologised for that mistake. They simply reply to my previous question and completely ignored the fact that they caused me a sleepless night 😩

Nothing to do with SFD or SFD2. Folding mirrors can be done on a T6. New door modules, addition of new wires on both doors to mirror plugs/driver side switch and the folding mirrors themselves.

That is why I contacted them at the first place. They offering a wire kit for two specific PR codes. I thought I am lucky and maybe my electric window motor compatible with the Power fold mirrors. It would have been nice to save some money.

Probably the support staff messed up something. I also find out I am not that lucky. They confirmed just what you said.

If you don't have power folding mirrors your door/window modules won't support folding. It's a long long time since VW fitted wiring looms or parts that support optional extras.

It's not hard to do but it isn't cheap unless you can pick up parts on ebay for sensible money

I probably go for the aftermarket version. I saw in one of Roberts pots that aftermarket one has better functions than the factory install
