Programming a retro fit steering wheel

Hello

I'm about to wire my steering wheel into the van following a YouTube video.
All seems straightforward enough. The wheel has already been fitted but I'm just wiring in to the computer and to the power.

My question is...

Do I have to disconnect the battery before doing this. Incase air bag goes off or something? or is that when fitting the actual steering wheel. I've already unplugged it from behind the steering wheel with battery connected. Only because the aftermarket alarm started chirping.

And

Can you use a carista obd thing to program it to make it live or is it only the vcds software that puts the coding into the van? To liven up the steering wheel functions?

Steering wheel cost a fortune and no one will wire the f***er in. Any help would be appreciated. Girlfriend bought it for Christmas.

Hi there, ok so i've been trying to find time to do this, and i have finally managed to get the front bumper changed with the fogs etc with the help of @Pauly amongst others..! I've got a potential window tomorrow night.. or sat am v early. I just went to the van to check everything out...
