Renogy simple set up - after some advice

I currently have an AGM leisure battery mounted under my driver's seat.

This is charged from a Clayton LPS in the rear of the van, via a CTEK D250SA. The Clayton is charged via a solar panel and input from the alternator.

I want to replace the AGM with the 100Ah Renogy lithium battery. Physically I believe it will fit, albeit probably tilted forward somewhat. I have been in touch with Vanworx, who fitted out my van, and they don't see a problem with swapping out the AGM for the Renogy.

I'm after some advice as to which charger to go for.

This one looks good in the Renogy range - is this the right charger for me?:

the CTEK D250SA is the older version, which doesnt have a Lithium charge profile . . . so not advised to be used with lithium.

the newer D250SE does,

there are many options shown over here:

The Renogy combined inputs are very good.

im running the 50A version at the min . . . https://amzn.to/33HUZqT

make sure you get a couple of BT-2 units for monitoring both Renogy itms . . . or get the HUB and one Bt-2.

Thanks Guys - much appreciated!

@Dellmassive why do you suggest getting two bluetooth modules? I hadn't considered monitoring of the DC-DC charger necessary/desirable?

I notice that there is a newer version of the Renogy 100Ah battery with Bluetooth built-in.

My thoughts are to order:
Renogy 30A MPPT DC2DC charger
Renogy 100Ah battery with Bluetooth

Do I really need the extra BT-2 bluetooth module?

If so am I better off ordering the older battery without the in-built bluetooth and then going with the hub and a BT-2 as you suggest?

TIA!

Bt-2 for the DC-DC is a must imho..... For monitoring and also changing settings.

The smart version 100ah (that I have). Also needs a bt-2 or hub.

I have 3* bt-2 units.... One on each device... Didn't go for a hub as they are all mobile units.

..

The newer 100ah with built in BT-2 is untested.. and has a 24hr sleep mode.

@Dellmassive

So looks like I am better off going for the older Renogy battery without Bluetooth, and buying the hub and a BT-2 module.
This will allow me to monitor both the charger and the battery - assuming that I can plug both into the hub, with the BT-2 plugged into the hub.

Is my understanding correct?
Also - did I see you mention that you had a discount code for Renogy?

TIA! (Again!)

yes you can do that.... Or just use two BT-2s.

Or go for the newer battery with built in.
Discount....

I can get you a discount at Renogy United Kingdom

Many thanks @Dellmassive
Have just placed an order for the Renogy 100Ah batt with bluetooth and the 30A charger (with a BT-2 module).
I'm guessing I'm going to have to sort out some fresh cables - and therefore may need to invest in some tools to prep the connections.

loads of info over here . . . .

@YellowHound could you please confirm that you can fit the Bluetooth version of the Renogy 100Ah battery under the driver's seat? Did you notice that the bluetooth version is cheaper than the 'Smart' version? Any idea why this is?
Can I ask why you opted for the 30A DC-DC & MPPT unit over the 50A one?

@Dellmassive is it possible to daisy chain the renogy devices and only use a single bm-2?
Dc-dc -> 100aH -> bm-2
Use one BT-2 device and a hub from Renogy. Hub connects to battery and Dc-Dc and BT-2 plugs into hub. That way there’s only 1 Bluetooth connection to add in the app and you’ll see both devices. According to my understanding of their manuals, no you can’t directly interconnect or daisy chain.

I thought that was interesting so took a look. They are quoting less charge cycles (>2000) for the BT 100ah compared to the smart model (>4000) which is the older type. Haven‘t checked dimensions to see if different but from the images I think the cells used to build the BT battery are different as I believe on a tear down by Will Prowse the older ‘smart’ version has pouch cells - the BT ones look as if they may be prismatic. @Dellmassive might know?

or, as @LhHutch says . . . us the Renogy RS485 HUB . . .

and plug in each device.

I think the daisy chaining only works on paralleled batteries not different types of unit (I.e batt & Dc-Dc). That’s why I went for hub and one Bt-2

100Ah W/BT - 100A/50A ( look like Prismatic style cells )

2000 @ 80% DOD..

SMART range: 9 look like pouch or 18650 style cells )

100A / 50A discharge/charge

4000 cycles @ 80% DOD

I've got the HUB too, , , , but not used it yet.

I've had the BT-2 running 2x smart batteries . . . . but havent linked in the DC50s yet.

might be worth a test. . . . it should work as they are using the standard RS485 comms protocol. - but as you sudjest, it needs testing to prove either way.
