im sure pauly put something on about changing H4 light bulbs might be wrong but sure i seen it somewhere i got a photo of Ed because i could not see how to get the dlr bulbs out

I posted a video on here somewhere of H4 from the rear, will see if I can find it

When changing the DRL bulbs, the Handbook simply says to turn the bulb holder anti-clockwise and pull it out to change the bulb. Easy I thought, I’ll nip out and do it now before it gets dark. However, it does not look quite that simple, as the wires attached to the back of the bulb holder do not allow it to come out. Do these need to be unclipped from the holder (there are what look like little white clips on the ends, but not sure how /if these do unclip), or should it come out attached? No electrical knowledge, so reluctant to do anything without advice from those that know... that’s you guys! Thanks, Andy

Thanks for that @mmi, but should have said that mine are H4’s - going to replace all the bulbs, and thought I would start with the ‘easy’ ones, but don’t get how this DRL bulb holder comes out with the wiring...

hopefully this youtube link works, if not type in "headlight buld change" in the search and, i think, the 3rd or 4th one down has the chat with the video.

sorry on not great on these chat thingys.

Vid is really helpful thank you :inlove:, I managed nearside no problems, unfortunately the much tighter offside was way more tricky, bulbs changed but the little metal clip that goes over the H4 bulb before you put the assmebly cap back on, pinged off and I can't get it back on  I see how it fits but just can't reach, hoping the assembly cap is so tightly squished shut that it holds the bulb in too, the bulb felt more wedged in than the nearside too even without the clip thingy.....anybody know if that will be ok or had similar? Why on earth did they make it so hard to do the offside? :(

I took the lid off the air box to do the offside.

If the bulb wobbles about, it will affect the beam pattern and alignment.

you don't need to remove the battery, there is enough room on that side.
yes, remove the air box lid. You remove the large hose clamp, then the electrical connector. Once that is off you just flip the 3 air box lid clamps outwards so you can take the lid off.
A mirror will help, I used my phone camera in 'selfie' mode so I could see what was going on. It's fiddly but really not that big a deal.

Ah, is that easy to do? Looks like wires to unattach etc

Pretty straightforward. Few clips and a couple of hooks, I undid the jubilee clip and disconnected the two sensors. You need a small screwdriver to unclip them.

Make sure you don’t break the connectors and don’t get any dirt in the intake or filter box and that it all seals up properly when it goes back.

I probably would give it a miss if you’re not happy taking things apart though, as breaking a sensor or plug, or not seating it properly could get expensive.

Done it, needed the confidence about the little sensor with the grey T to pull it off, clip back in place all secure....except lost wee mirror ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Thank you

Tips for anyone picking up this thread - watch the video and pay attention to the sideway movement of the clip that holds the lamp in. I spent way too long trying the get the clip to just press back into position!
I also agree with others who say to take the filter box top off (2 connections, 1 jubilee to loosen the hose, 2 retaining clips securing it to main filter hosing - 1 front 1 back). Next time I’ll do that 1st then the passenger side.

Not difficult, apart from getting access to the covers that are clipped on the backs of the headlight units.
Passenger side is OK if you don't have a larger battery than standard, but you may need to take the air filter lid off to get at the Driver's side.
Unclip the cover, and the bulb is just behind it.

Ah, now that I can't remember, but I do recall thinking they were not held in particularly well.
There's a video on youtube that might help.
