Resetting an "Inspection now!" message - other than after a service?

An "Inspection now!" message has appeared, at about 55500 miles. According to the service history, a Service 3 was carried out, by the main dealer, on 24 August 2020 at 53911 miles.

Is it possible that the service warning was reset - but not the inspection warning?

I can reset the inspection warning myself, using the procedure in the owner's manual, but will this mean that future warnings will not pop up at the right time?

Thanks, all.

From the manual below it says "Do not reset the display between service intervals. This can lead to Incorrect information being displayed." and "If you manually reset the service interval display while the flexible oil change service is valid, "fixed oil change service" will be activated. The service interval will no longer be calculated on an Individual basis =*Booklet Service schedule."

Service interval display
The service display is shown on the instrument cluster.
Service schedules at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are divided into two categories, oil change service and inspections. The service interval display provides information on the next service which includes an oil change and on the next scheduled inspection. Scheduled services can also be found in the service schedule.
The service appointment currently displayed can be found at Vehicles without text messages on the top right of the instrument cluster display:

* 1: inspection.
* 2: oil change service.
In vehicles with fixed oil change service, services take place at predefined intervals.
The service intervals are calculated on an Individual basis in vehicles with flexible oil change service.
Advances in technology have brought about a considerable reduction in servicing requirements. The flexible oil change is a new service offered by Volkswagen to ensure that the oil is only changed when necessary. The length between the oil change services (maximum of 2 years) is also determined by the conditions under which the vehicle is used and personal driving style. The service reminder is displayed 20 days before the service is due. The distance is rounded to the nearest
100 km; the remaining time is rounded to full days. The current service information cannot be opened until you have driven 500 km since the last service. Until this point the display only shows lines.

Service reminder
If the vehicle is due to be serviced, a service reminder will appear on the display when the ignition is switched on.

In vehicles without text messages a spanner symbol will appear on the instrument cluster along with a display in km and a clock symbol e>showing the time left before the next service appointment is due in days. The number of kilometres shown corresponds to the maximum number of kilometres that can still be driven until the service appointment is due. In addition, a symbol in the top right corner of the display specifies which service appointment the reminder is for (1 for inspection, 2 for oil change service).

If the service reminder is displayed for both service appointments (1 and 2 in the top right corner of the instrument cluster display), the distance and the display in days for the next service appointment applies in a vehicle without text messages.
In vehicles with text messages, Oil change or Inspection in--- km or --- days appears in the instrument cluster display.

Service event

If a service Is due, a signal will sound and the spanner symbol will appear for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. In vehicles with text messages, Oil change now! or Inspection now! appears In the instrument cluster dis- play.

Accessing a service message

You can access the current service messages whenever the ignition is switched on, the engine is not running and the vehicle is stationary.

* Press and hold down the (menu/clock) button in the instrument cluster as often as possible until the spanner symbol
and 1 in the top right corner of the display appears. The values shown apply to the oil change service.

* Press the [menu/clock] button on the instrument cluster again. The spanner symbol appears and the number 2 will appear on the top right-hand corner of the display. The values shown apply to the inspection.

* OR: select the Settings menu.
* Select the menu option Info in the Service submenu.

If a service Is overdue, this is indicated by a minus sign in front of the mileage or trip reading.

Ours is showing "inspection now" but the local VW dealers recommend just ignoring it until it shows up the actual oil change warning.

If I've read the text above right though, if you turn it off, it resets the servicing schedule to fixed! Seems a bit brutal...! Presumably the VW dealers must reset it in some way that doesn't do this.

Interesting - thanks.

Yes, that's what I read in the owner's manual, too. I'm keen not to lose its ability to judge when a service is due. Maybe the dealership can reset it without upsetting this ability. I've a feeling that I'll have to take it along and ignore their bullshit about a service being due, etc!

Speak to them in advance, the reason why our dealers say ignore it is they have to charge £100 for the ‘inspection’! I’d like to turn the warning off but not enough to pay £100 for the privilege...

I've asked the dealership. Nothing back from them, yet. Odd that they have to charge this - assuming it's their mistake at the last servicing, they can pay/sort!

I’ve had this crop up on mine now. Called my local VW garage and they didn’t even have a clue, said ignore it and see if it says ‘service due’ then the days have counted down.
they now have and it just says “inspection due now” ...

Interesting - thanks. Concerned it might be an MOT failure point. Going to make a claim under the Das Welt warranty as I’m getting no response from the main dealer I bought the van from.

That’s a nightmare. Was slightly concerning that my local garage didn’t know what it was.
I wouldn’t mind if it was a scheduled oil change or something ... but I’m not spending money I don’t need to!!
Just wish I knew what it meant haha

Thanks Loz. The last one worked for my U.K. 2017 Transporter. The Inspection display came up after I left an interior light on. Flattened the Battery completely. cheers, Pete

hi, can anyone help ? I had oil/inspection come up on my dash. I managed to clear the inspection using the hazard and pressing the set button…but I can not get rid of the spanner/oil display. I have tried holding down the set button and turning on the engine. Also checked the oil level just. In case. Where am I going wrong ? Do you have to stand on one leg when pressing the buttons ? I own a 2017 T6 with no buttons on the steering wheel. Thanks, Pete.

Did you try the method from the manual in post #2?

I had this and took it back to my local independent garage. They had to use the dealer tools (not just vCads) to reset it. So far so good.
Nb Nicholson motors in crowle.

I will try again tomorrow. I think I may have been pressing the wrong button

I have a 2017 start line with no text mfd. When I scroll threw is number 1 inspection and number 2 oil service. Manual actually says it both way round. Very confused

Welcome to the forum @baltyre

It's not clear from your post if you're just adding a comment or asking for help.

If it's help you're after perhaps add what you are trying to do; are your trying to reset an indicator, worried about a service being due, something else?

Hi thanks for reply. Had service and they reset service. When I checked number two is now at 365 days or 18600 miles. So just checking they have reset right one. Mine has flexibile service. The manual mentions it both way round. So just checking 1 is inspection and 2 is oil service?

If you read the VW manual above it says *1 inspection
*2 oil service
Then later on says it the other way around. Very confused. I do have text messages. On my MFD. Has anyone else noticed this?
