Reversing camera to aftermarket headunit

I also think the video input on your Kenwood should be set to NTSC and not PAL
Don't believe I have a NTSC/PAL option in the settings menu. Been through the menu and manual

No idea if connected to the camera video issue
Vehicle info button on the Kenwood screen is greyed out. Not sure if info is available normally
Climate info works, but Kenwood on screen controls are adjusting the heating etc.

Still drawing a blank. Trying to tick off all things like pulling the rear panel to ensure camera connected, pulled the lower dash to check fuse, double checked connections are good on the head unit......although I do need to double check again the purple/white reverse signal, but assume that's good as the head unit changes to camera mode? Or could it be this signal wire not triggering the camera?

Here's some images

Assume OEM is a CMOS camera? Either way both settings sees no difference in result

IMG_3547.jpeg

When clicking on Rear Camera Settings I get ''cannot communicate with camera, check connections'', could it be the camera unit itself has died. Need to trial another to be sure, but the price of OEM cameras are a little salty to buy on the off chance

IMG_3548.jpeg

And the result regardless of messing around is still no image

Looks like I'll be booking it in somewhere for a pro to finish the job and be a chunk of change lighter

I don't suppose anybody has a copy of the installations instructions for the OEM camera? @Pauly @Deaky

I bought one from VagTec, but no instructions included. Physically fitted it, but need to connect it up and code the head unit. I've emailed VagTec, but nothing back yet - any help appreciated :)

Van is a 2020 6.1 Highline 150
@Drifterman the camera you bought of Vagtec was it a VW one??
As I have purchased one off them and the housing has Bentley embossed on it?
Thanks

@Drifterman sorry meant to ask aswell is urs a tailgate or barn door??
If the latter did you fit in between the 2 number plate lights as shown on their website or
To the right hand side as shown in the crap pictures they sent.
Thanks again

Hey @Paul7807
Yes, the camera had the VW logo embossed on it.
Mine's a tailgate, so yes, I fitted it between the 2 number plate lights.
VagTec never did get back to me when I emailed a couple of questions to them - thankfully I managed to suss it out, get it coded on ODIS and it worked straight away....

Thanks for getting back to me mate.
I have spoken to Rafal from Vagtec and he reckons that the camera is a brand new vw one put in the Bently housing so it will fit in the barn door? I have added some pictures.
I'm not sure but until I fit it I won't know.
Is it easy to code on ODIS I think my m8 has one so was going to see him.

Not sure abouthte barn door fitting I'm afraid - just make sure you cut the hole in the right place!

I got a guy to code mine with ODIS when he was doing the Stereo fader (I fitted rear speakers) and the Towbar electrics (I fitted a Westfalia detachable and PF Jones wiring); he had it done in about 10 mins and made it look very easy...

My camera didn't have the dodgy looking back on it with the sealant tbh, it was a sealed unit (haven't got any pics apart from after I installed it I'm afraid)

It’s been shaved and resealed to fit a Barn door , tailgate is totally different.

no coding is required when installing to a aftermarket

Kenwoods are normally set to auto, to pick up pal or NSTC cameras

Thanks for the info.
It's going to a vw head unit.
Can this be done with carista?
Also I will need the rear speaker fader added can this be done in crista aswell ?
I'm thinking if both can be done I might aswell buy 1. Thanks

Oh ok..

we use VCDS to code these features , not sure that Carista can do it

I'm just fitting mine which I bought from Davtec. No instructions and the cable is not really long enough so I have had to extend it. The hole saw also broke after barely scuffing the tailgate! Bit disappointing really. Did you connect the red wire to the reversing light? I cant eally get to the light as mine T6 is a campervan.

I just referred to the wiring instructions supplied by @MORGS777. IIRC, the loom on the camera splits in 2 directions after it gets through the rear door threshold:

1. Down to the LH rear quarter to get an earth and the signal from the rev line on the rear light (yellow on cam loom, to green black on light loom).

2. To the front of the van and into the dash for video feed into the head unit (pins 6 & 12 on blue plug) and the power supply from the fuse box.

(All from memory, so please double check!)

Hope this helps….

Thanks but mine is slightly different as I think it is just a generic camera and comes with a feed wire to trigger the head unit/monitor if using after-market equipment. I have run the camera feed (2 wires) to pin 6 & 12 on the Discover Media headunit I have and will now need to connect the positive and neg to the reverse feed and earth. My T6 is already converted and kitted out so I need to find the green and black cable tucked up the LH side rear - probably behind one of the interior lights I hope. (Behind the ceiling board/frame for the pop-top)

Reading through this thread, it made me wonder if there‘s a 12v +ve reverse feed available where factory fitted LED rear light units are fitted.

Thanks. Much appreciated. But I’m struggling with which end is pin 1 etc. I’ve test fitted to what I believe is 6 and 12 but no image. I’m using this adapterView attachment 186062
Did you get anywhere with this issue? I'm having the exact same issue myself with the same interface cable, in reverse the display shows sensors but not camera image.

Details below:
VW T6 Factory fitted Discover Media stereo, reversing camera and SWC
Kenwood DMX7722DABS with Connects2 CTUVW03 Infodapter

All other systems and adaptors fitted and working (with the exception of the Pink speed pulse as there is no input for this on the Kenwood, is this only needed on SatNav stereos?)

The factory reversing camera was definitely working on the factory stereo but for some reason no image comes up. I definitely had the interface cable connected correctly but to be sure I removed it and the blue connector and connected them directly for the photos (I tried both orientations just in case it had been wired incorrectly). This adaptor just plugs into the RCA on the Connects2 box which then in turn gets plugged into the RevCam Video in on the back of the Kenwood.

On the Kenwood there is no settings for NTSC/PAL so I assume this will auto detect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

No success so I had to resort to going to a specialist. The Quadlock connector and cables were butchered on mine by PO. Also there appeared to be an issue with power to camera, maybe a broken wire?. So easiest solution was to run a new cable direct from camera to the camera input / yellow RCA jack on the back of my unit. Now all is working.
