Review: DAV-TEC

Had my van in to @Dav-Tec today for a tracker fitting. I had initially contacted another installer who was more local to me, but their suggestion of sub-contracting the job to a mobile auto electrician who I would have no knowledge of prior to arrival didn't sit well. On the back of the forum posts I called Chris, who was very helpful, and easy to deal with. Drove up this morning, and the van was straight in for work to start. Very pleased with the work done, and had the app all set up and demonstrated before I left. Having spoken to Chris, and seen his set up, I wasn't too nervous about leaving a week old van, but he really is a professional who takes pride in his work. I would recommend him wholeheartedly, and am already considering some coding and/or remap work in the future.

One of the compromises that I had learned to live with my ‘17 102PS T28 camper conversion was the lack of power most noticeable when climbing with a loaded van. I found the stress of timing my overtakes on the motorway and rapidly changing down through the gears when climbing to try and maintain momentum all a bit wearing. But otherwise the 102 has been surprising capable.
I’d read about remaps, and with some of the horror stories thought it was Pendle or nothing but then talked myself out of it completely. Then I started reading about some of the Dav-Tec successes, positive reviews and I reached out to a few in the forum who had done what I was thinking about.

Well, back in the Easter half term I was camping up in the Peak District with the family. I reached out to Chris to see if he might have a slot for a remap of my van given he was only 45mins away from the camp site. He was really accommodating, asked me what I was trying to achieve (drivability was priority) answered a load of my daft questions and booked me in for later that week.

Chris is a top man. Kettle went straight on and he got started. Updating software, copying the base file and knocking off any fault codes. Off out for a data log run (I wimped out just before the flat line’) and then another post 1st map. Chris and his coder Fred made some further tweaks to make some adjustments to the torque curve and we went out for another run and nailed it the second time.

I had loads of questions and Chris patiently gave both technical answers - and then versions that were more suited to my level of knowledge (lower, let’s be clear!)

Really happy with the results. Very similar experience to @thuderace916 - we weren’t chasing bhp, moreover a van that has more torque at the right points whilst staying within safety limits. Everyday driveability. I think we’re closer to 165/170 mark but more importantly the graphs look good.
I haven’t driven the van much since then. Certainly fully loaded with family and camping equipment, the drive out of the Peaks on the way home was noticeably much smoother and effortless. Where previously I had to change down to 3rd to get up a hill, 4th was fine and still pulling strong. Holding motorway speed also easier and no longer confined to the slow and fast lane only when struggling to accelerate back up to speed. Even found myself more at home in the overtaking lane.

A few shorter trips more recently and just a lot more pleasant to drive on normal A roads where previously I really had to rag it to not have traffic building up behind me. Sounds odd but I used to be so tense when driving the van before that I often used to get a stiff back on journeys where I’d been tense through willing myself to get up hill without slowing to a crawl, feeling bad at holding others up! So the back’s better too!

Even talked myself in to @Deaky old Discover Media head unit too and arranged to have it sent to Chris to unlock it and then he posted it on to me. I’ve since fitted that with some advice from Chris and all is good.

I will no doubt return for a MetaTrack and reverse camera at some point. Not keen on the 3hr trip so will have to combine with a cheeky camping trip or a suggested weekend in Chesterfield…

Thanks again Chris - good luck with the ever-growing business and hope you manage to make Dav-Tec your full time passion. You deserve every success if you continue to treat all your customers as you do.

Just thought it would be nice to say thank you to T6 forum, I posted yesterday with a real T6 emergency and had a load of responses including Chris @Dav-Tec who provided a solution and went far beyond the normal service most places provide to get me back on the road. You guys and girls on here get the from me!! Have a great weekend ✅

Big thanks to @Dav-Tec for sorting a reversing camera for the van along with a load of other bits and some coding. Can’t recommend him enough, you’re vehicle is in good hands, and mine will be again when I take it back for some more work to be done that we discussed!

His knowledge is unparalleled and can’t wait to see his business grow!

Thanks and again and see you soon!

Cheers buddy, very nice of you to say so. See you soon hopefully! Gets those doors and speakers sorted

Visited @Dav-Tec today and bought myself some peace of mind in the form of a Meta Trak install. Dropped the van off with Chris at 9am and then me & Mrs Bav went for a second breakfast  at the local 'Spoons and then a wander around Bolsover Castle. Just 2.5 hours later, Chris called to say all done, so returned for a quick natter and then away back home.

Great to put a face to the name Chris and thank you for a drama-free install.

Please bear with me on this, I know it looks a bit long-winded, but I think it’s worth having a bit of background detail….

My van is the EU6 102 engine with adblue.

Sometime in June the dreaded flashing coil light made an appearance one afternoon when I’d just started the van and I was leaving work! During that journey to drop something off the van was running on limited power. When I restarted the van, the fault had disappeared and all was back to normal for my journey home…. and to be fair, I’ve had no faults since, but after reading the endless nightmare stories on this forum + previous personal experience with a blocked/failed EGR valve, this got me worried that it might be EGR problems?

I contacted @Dav-Tec (Chris) who by now had done a number of very successful jobs/upgrade’s on my van to see if he could work his magic with a possible EGR delete? Unbeknown to me, @Texxaco (Pete) had been having similar issues with his stunner of a T6 and had already had the @Dav-Tec treatment in the way of a EGR and ADBLUE ‘solution’!

At the T6Forum summer camp meet in July, Chris kindly scanned my van and found that the fault was actually with the adblue system and not the devil’s work EGR as I’d suspected…. either way, I wanted the EGR sorting! So I got booked in with Chris to have a custom remap which would include the same EGR and adblue ‘solution’ as Pete’s van.

On the day of the remap, Chris did a scan as he always does prior to any work…. goes through any fault codes with me and when looking back at previous scan’s, Chris discovered that this adblue fault had history and was showing up on most of the previous scan’s. I told Chris as well that I’d very recently noticed the smell of diesel fumes on startup…. not necessarily in the cab, just in general around the van and when we went out on the first data logging run it was clear that something wasn’t quite right?

When we got back to Dav-Tec HQ, Chris found that the rear EGR pipe was split and exhaust gases were p#ssing out into the engine bay and this was causing the boost pressure problem. No problem for Chris, he removed the split pipe, fabricated a couple of ‘delete’ plates from some sheet steel, refitted the lot and we went out on another data logging run. Much better (near perfect) results meant that a new custom map could be written to include the EGR ‘solution’ and away I went.

I’ve been driving around with the new map now for a week…. to and from work and the usual runs and roads so that I could get a comparison with what I had before (which by the way was a generic Pendle map installed by Leighton Vans). Don’t get me wrong, I had no complaints or issues with the previous map…. I’d had it on there for over two years, but because of the running issues, I needed a ‘solution’ and Chris’s custom remap ticked all my boxes.

I couldn’t be happier with the results of the custom map supplied by Chris…. the engine runs free and smooth even from a cold start up and pulls progressively, purposely and smoothly throughout.

I want to thank Chris for going above and beyond as he always does…. and also his very patient wife Tracy for putting up with me on that Saturday!

Cheers, Matt
Just wanted to give a quick update on this previous post….

Recently I took my van for a service and MOT (this being it’s first MOT since the above EGR and ADBLUE ‘solution’) and I’m happy to say it sailed through the MOT with no advisories at all…. just a nice compliment on my van from the MOT inspector.

I’m so happy with the work that Chris carried out with this remap…. my van is running the strongest and best it ever has…. and another massive plus is that the MPG is definitely much improved! Not that I have any scientific calculations or figures for you, but just to say that my ‘miles per tank’ are always very close to 500 miles per tank now where as before it was always nearer to the 400 miles.

Just had Chris help with moving a Discover media headunit from a Caddy to my transporter. He removed component protection and enabled the app function so I can now use Android auto/carplay.

Can't recommend Chris @Dav-Tec enough, he did all the work remotely and talked me thorugh the whole process on the phone. He even helped with some VCDS fault removal. Will definitely be using him again in the future.

Excellent service from Chris, replaced the screen on my Discover Media unit from my t6.
Even whilst he was moving workshop he managed to repair the unit and send it back working perfectly.
Top service, top person thank you

Back home after having my van in with Chris @Dav-Tec, today.
Koni Special Actives and -30mm H&R springs fitted. (Still grinning like a Cheshire cat at the ride).
Great having a local expert fit the "tried and trusted" kit from CRS.
Chris is a great bloke, his enthusiasm and knowledge of all things VW know no bounds.
Great new set up in Chesterfield which deserves all the success going.
I will be back!
Thanks Chris, you are a superstar!

Cheers Dave, that's greatly appreciated feedback. The kit Steve @CRS Performance supplies is truly superb and superior to other kits on the market, to the point I've replaced the current setup on my caddy for a Koni setup today and the fronts will be getting the same treatment next month. We like to practice what we preach so it made sense!

Hope to see you again soon Dave for that speaker upgrade

Hi all, Just a quick review on Dav-Tec (Chris). Sorry if posted in wrong thread. Just had immobiliser/tracker fitted by Chris. Absolutely fantastic service. Very professional. Chris was able to advise pros and cons of what's available out there without pushing me in one direction or another. Once I'd made a decision we were booked in, Chris sent a calendar date so I didn't forget. We left the van with him for the morning. The van was ready on time and he provided a full explanation of how the system worked etc. Will definitely use Dav-Tec in future should the need arise. I'm thinking audio upgrades.

Ah, that might be the answer to the thing I'm currently searching for but can't find as I seem not to be able to access the appropriate section on a Caddy forum  .

I have the CRS kit on my T6.1 (fab, worth every single penny) and I was wondering what the Caddy suspension is like? Not driven one yet...tho I should really ask this question in a separate thread, not your company one!

Hi Guys n Gals.

Hope you're all well. We are forever greatful for the reviews we have received on here it truly is fantastic.

I know it may be a little cheeky but could I ask anyone who has left a review to post it to Google too. Just a copy and paste job will do.

We're trying to get our profile out there in a bid I can finally go full time at this as to jobs is to be honest wearing me down after 3 and a half years working 7 days a week. I'm certainly not moaning it's my own decision and my own doing but I just need to give the business a bit more of a shove and we feel reviews on Google would help.

Link is below for anyone kind enough to spare 5 mins and copy and paste your review. Feel free to mention your review was originally posted in the T6forum and provide a link as it'll promote the forum too!

Cheers
Chris

Quick shout out for Chris @ Dav-Tec. I got in touch with him to arrange an engine remap, DSG gearbox flash and EGR delete.

I’ve had 3 EGR replacements on VW’s and a leaking cooler on the T6 cost me £1000 a few weeks ago. It was time to get it sorted!!!

Chris sorted everything for me, and also activated my trailer wiring. A couple of live data logging runs later and a phone call with Chris’ mapping wizard and the Van’s now driving much better with plenty more torque, less hesitation and better gear selection from the DSG box.

Chris @Dav-Tec was a pleasure to deal with and I’d recommend him to anyone.

Popped down to see Chris last weekend for him to apply a little magic to the bus. This was only after spending time talking me through the options and coming up with the best solution for my circumstances.

Very knowledgable and generous with it, sharing advice on all things van and audio.

Van drives superbly and I’ll definitely be booking back in shortly for some audio and security work.

Highly recommended and a canny bloke to boot.

A week or so ago I had occsssion to call in and visit at the new DAV-TEC base near Bolsover Chesterfield to consult with Chris on an electrical issue. I had been to his 2 previous units but not to this one, his newest place.
Well wow, how impressive it is - and clean is an understatement, it is somewhere between 'Clinical & Surgical'. The interior decor is freshly painted and will stand next to any dealership with a dedicated customer access door leading to a waiting room lounge area furnished with clean sofas/chairs, flat screen tv, drinks making facility, free wifi and a large, spacious, clean toilet which complies fully with the DDA in respect of wheelchair access and safety/suport hand rails. Chris has really gone to to town on these premisis so that if you have travelled a long way to have work carried out that will take a few hrs the waiting lounge is a home from home where you can be clean, comfy, warm and do any work related stuff on your lap top as you wait, watch tv or stretch out on a sofa and have a snooze. I haven't mentioned the workshop area yet - which is off limits to customers under H&S regs but I was given a tour because the workshop was empty of vehicles at the time. The workshop is equally as clean and clinical as the customer access and waiting area. A brand new 4 poster hoist has been fitted. I have had various aspects of work carried out on my own van by Chris at DAV-TEC over the last couple of years at his previous premises but I was so pleased to see how Chris is developing his business and clearly going from strength to strength. I have also found that DAV-TEC places great emphisis on customer service and satisfaction which must be succesful as most of his work comes to him via word of mouth and reputation.
Well done Chris(DAV-TECH) I was impressed mate, your are clearly a force to be reckoned with in your particular field of expertise.
