Review: Exploria

Had a nice long chat with the Skipton chaps, very helpful, and some good ideas. Thanks to all for your help.

also they are brilliant for walk ins, no appointment needed.

They threw me the keys to a van after 5 mins and let me terrorise the local roads for a bit.

I do agree on people not turning up without an appointment.
When I go to customers houses to give estimates I have to book them in sometimes a week in advance. I cannot just turn up when the customer wants me to. Too busy even if it's just a mile away.

I have seen Exploria's workmanship in the workshop and it's first class, if you can wait for appointment it will be worth it, as mentioned above it not a bad thing that he will appoint an hour or so of their time to deal with and listen to all your queries as they could be the middle of a job or dealing with someone else if a customer just shows up! At least with an appointment you will have some uninterrupted time to get questions answered and inspect their work. Otherwise you could be standing around for an age waiting for someone to deal with you while the are trying complete a project for an anxious customer waiting to collect their modified van. Make sure you spend the time to get someone good anyway and don't settle for less than perfect or you'll regret it afterwards. Hope you find someone if you can't get them.

I can understand not tuning up without an appointment if it's a person's house but if it's a business then they need to be more flexible, a return call does not go amiss and fixing an appointment can be done even if you turn up it can be arranged. As for setting on Less than perfection there are lots of other converters who can deliver the same for less,. I dare say some of the guys on here could do as well

I might add we bought a T5 California around 2008 but then went to a caravan show and saw some of the conversions. My wife said at the time she wished she had got a Bilbo but now looking back I think no. There are a lot of converters out there who do some stunning work, most is done on a second had van some one has bought. If you bough a new T6 and converted it your looking at more than the cost of a Cali Ocean and in some cases the workmanship is not as good. No doubt Exporia do not employ a salesman (many don't) but you don't turn away a prospective customer either or put them off. I'm not saying their work is not good but there are others who's work is as good if not better and one of them post on here quite regular so don't be stuck on one converter, check a few out. If they are any good you will see them at shows then they will not turn you away.

Absolutely I'm sure there are many excellent and skilled converters throughout the UK and maybe some more accommodating than others, as we see there are a few excellent lads on here who are very helpful at the drop of a hat
My main point really is just get someone with a good reference to avoid disappointment. In that area they are good.
I went to see a conversion sompany a few weeks ago who sell themselves very well and talk a great job but their work was absolutely shocking, (not UK based)

I think that what you need to bear in kind in this is..

1. They are very busy, and the people who can best answer your questions are best employed doing the conversion.

2.conversions, wishes, and questions are very in depth and many, and can't be thrashed out in a phone call.. Better looking at examples and both parties getting to know each other.

3.if you don't want to make or wait for an appointment, will you be willing to wait for a slot?

Having seen their examples, I would do both of point 3 without a problem.. A conversion, and finding who should do it shouldnt be rushed, otherwise you will probably have some "I wish I had".. Times afterwards, and they don't want specs to keep in changing, as they slot you in for the work required.. How about if the guy before you suddenly decides on 2wks extra work.l, so bumping your conversion date to later? How would you feel?

Please do not be offended by my post, there are a lit of good guys out there in demand, and so consequently busy, and there is also a lot of cowboys...

In some way I agree with part or all of the contributions to this thread, the thing is that when you are told 'We'll try to get a price list e-mailed to you sometime next week' I really begin to wonder if they need the work, it takes seconds to e-mail a price list, I appreciate that they may do top quality work, but.......
We all lead busy lives, all I am looking for from any supplier is good communication, as an essential part of the package, with E-mail and mobile phones, I don't really see what the problem is. I did wait a week for a price list to be e-mailed - nothing came. If any company is so busy that can't talk to customers then they should consider themselves very fortunate, it can however start to seem like arrogance to a new prospective customer, which it may or may not be. In the end, we all have different criteria, and if I had lots of spare time I may be able to take a different view. Again really appreciate the time and advice people have taken on the forum to respond.

Not offended at all Dave.. I am happy to consider any point of view.

Try emailing them, they might have got the Addy wrong, or had a typo.. Have you checked your spam folders?

Just had a look at their website and the work does look top notch but one thing I noticed was they are all young, nothing wrong with that but I do feel they could be a little big-headed (for want of a better word) in getting a little ahead of themselves in their attitude towards customers. They have no pricelist on the website most other places do and like @Poetpaul said it should not take a week to email a price list. DO we have a list of converters on the Forum, I think it is something we should have and give them stars for how good they are.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to drop into Skipton Car Radio today and see the work for myself, will report back when I've had a look.

There seems to be more and more companies like this.

I was directed by Gaz to their distributor for their T6 kits. First off he cut me off, I then rang back and he told me he was too busy in the workshop for calls and I'd have to ring him back! My money went elsewhere.

Back on topic, I've an Exploria Kombi bed and I cannot fault it.

That is why they should be employing a salesman or some one to answer the phone and queries like that, saying your too busy in the workshop does not cut it, if they want the work they need to be more civil to people, even if it is "sorry I cannot talk now but will ring you back" that would go further that cutting some one off

Met and had a good long chat with the Skipton Car Radio crew, booked the van in for the 19th June, Carpet lining, USB/Aux power/LED lights insulation, Windows.......

There you go. You can now email Exporia and tell them that thanks to their prmpt reply via email that you are now having your car done at Skipton.
Little story for you. I live by the river Thames and down stream is a pub called the Lethern Bottle. It was very popular when I was younger but there was a right misserable landlord there. He would argue with you and thow you out on the smallest pretence. One day a large boat came alog and started to moor up on his frontage. He was out like a shot telling them they could not moor up there at his pub, so they went. Later that night he got a phone call from a pub landlord further upstram from him called the Beetle & Wedge who said thanks for sending Des O 'Conner along to him as he spend a lot of money in the bar that night for his party who came along on the boat. I'd love to have seen the old gits face. There is a moral there somewhere I think some companies could learn from.

I don't bear Exploria any malice, it's just sad. Anyhow we'll see what happens with the Skipton crew.
