Review: Ovano

Getting the XL shortwheel base fitted mid Oct having ordered 2 weeks ago. You can fit an MTB in the drawer with wheels apparently (27.5" wheels 36s on the front, think the Fatbike will be pushing it though). Like the idea its tucked away from a security point of view.

Planning on using Bulkhead mode as a understated backdrop for Zoom calls!!

Interesting. This will be one of the first things i test when i get mine next week. Slightly sceptical tbh, as the dimensions (1200 x 1085 x 500mm) suggest you might need to take some bits off

If the bike fits or not, I reckon this bed is one of the best extras to buy

Ideal for work, ideal for weekends ideal to go to the shop
Camping wise it will take all the gear cooker, fridge mattress etc
Work wise tools are out of site, lay bed out hay presto it accepts a 8 x 4 board
Perfect for weekends away with out all the cost of a conversion, we have a camper conversion we use occasionally and are seriously considering selling to buy a kombi
A lot of people with campers live out side eating wise and seating in summer months
Only my thoughts

Andy

Had my Ovano Narrow - SWB installed last week. Gotta say it's a fantastic bit of kit. Really nice helpful guys and a family business so good to support them.

Perfect for my day van / wild camping conversion. I can store 4 surfboards down the side no probs if that's your thing. found a K-Foam memory foam mattress that is the perfect fit for it on Amazon. Few squeaks and rattles here and there, but probably as I'm running BFG's on standard T-32 suspension so pretty hard ride. Haven't tried bikes in it yet. But I think with the rear seats out there will be loads of room. Definitely worth the hard earned ££

Any chance of posting some picture showing how much room there is left down the sides?

at first I thought this was seriously over priced and not worth it. However I'm getting drawn to it even more as I use my van for the occasional boiler install so full conversion won't really suit.

Where are they based?

Here's some shots of the side. The area measures 540mm high and 350mm wide to the base of the wheel arch on the passenger side. but then there's additional space above the wheel arch. Again there's a bit of space above the wheel arch on the drivers side, but the unit sits flush to it.

I’m visiting these guys on Thursday to take a look at the XL system and check i can get my fridge in the drawer and my dog crate on the top. I also wanted to see in the flesh how it folds up and down as there aren’t any decent videos showing this with the Kombi seats in place. I want to be sure i can get to the straps to fold the seats back up with the system in place and not have to be a contortionist to do it.
If anyone else wants me to look at specific things while I’m there I’ll be happy to do so, just let me know what you’d like And I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Thanks for the pictures. I’m hoping they do one you can fit two road bikes down the side. I messaged them and they’ve said to watch this space as they‘re prototyping ideas at the moment.

I cant see how you could fit two bikes down the side unless you removed the top section, as the "bed" isn't high enough to accommodate them. Edit: i misread your post, sorry!

I got my switch XL fitted yesterday. It really is a seriously nice piece of kit; very well engineered, and Josh and his dad are top blokes too. Not sure i will be able to get bikes inside with this set up, but I've not given up yet. And there is a bike compatible version in the making from ovano, as Mikeje mentions above. Probably a few months away from production

I like the functionality of this system compared with many of the other Kombi bed options.

Fitting bikes is always going to be a challenge though, trying to get them inside while sleeping inside is tough. I made a single bed for me so that I can fit one or two bikes next to me, the plan is I can fit my motorbike next to me when I get brave enough to try actually getting it up on a ramp to get in the van

If you are planning this, I would put the bed down the passenger side of the van, assuming like most people you stand to the left of the bike whilst pushing it.

So i went down to see the guys at Ovano today. Very impressed with the XL. I now have one on order :)

Whats the bike attached to? Did you buy that?

Also is the bed able to be left in with a kombi seat in place ?

Thanks
My son made the the sliding bike rack for his A level DT project, so it cost us about £60 in total.

The van is a daily driver and I leave the bed frame in most of the time, so yes it can be left in with the Kombi seats in place. To use it the seats are folded down

Looks great that! @Village would you say there is enough space down the side of the tray to be accessable with barn doors? Or you reckon the thinner tray would be better for access?

Also looks like you could fit MTBs in on the top shelf when converted into a bulkhead, do you think that's also a possibility?

I don’t know how wide barn doors open, so probably best to ask ovano if they’ve tested the unit with them.

I don’t think MTBs will fit on the top shelf as I suspect there isn’t enough head room, but I haven’t had a chance to test this yet. On my to do list

Assuming the height of the platform matches the rear seats when folded down, you should be able to get MTBs in.

Took a fair bit of faff to get four in, but got there in the end! There are three DHs and an enduro in there.
