Ride Height Survey

Its amazing how much info you can gather from a thread like this . at the end of the day whats good for the goose isn't necessarily good for the gander
Ride comfort is something of a personal experience and what one person likes another will hate .
Things to remember are
The Lower the car, the more uncomfortable it will be .
Proper well designed shocks sort most issues out and should be the main priority
BUY the most expensive kit your budget will stand , Cheap is definitely not cheerful
Buy from a specialist , not a discount house with no after sales back up and tech advice.
These Transporters are recreational vehicles NOT TRACK DAY warriors
If you want some technical advice feel free to message me .

It’s a 2WD 2L 140BHP SWB camper conversion. Not looking for mega lows, but some arch gap loss to suit the 18” wheels I have (245/45/18).

I’m after coilovers, so I can adjust the height later if I find that I need to

Coilovers shouldn't be put into these vans ideally, market demand has promoted the sale of these types of kit . The situation is that coilover comes with a ONE spring rate fits all and the transporters have 4 different spring rates in reality.. so I don't recommend them, but I have fitted several H&R /KONI kits and it is the best ride you will get on low settings 60 to 70 mm

The coilover kit we sell is the H&R/KONI kit at £1295.00 and has stiffness (damping) adjustment to compensate for the one spring rate issue

So what is the spring/damper combo that you use? Your posts suggest it may vary depending on ride height, so can we assume a 50mm drop on a t32. Thanks

The kit is an H&R kit made in Germany . the kit is a proper coil over kit ( not a sleeve over kit like the B14 )
Its very hi quality and therefore commands a premium price unfortunately .
please note that the T32 offering doesn't have the damping adjustability feature that the other transporter models have

Just been perusing this thread and something sprung to mind.

I was wondering when people are setting their ride height, and some have front higher than rear, some vice versa, does anyone consider whether the sill between the wheels is level to the ground or sloping up to the front/back?

Or does no one bother about the sill to ground?

The sill to the ground measurement is the most important one -
the van should be 35 to 40 mm sloping forward, this is what a brand new unmolested van does

When lowering the vehicles with springs or coilovers this is the measurement I concentrate on getting correct. The steering will feel correct (not light) and the grip levels are higher for the more powerful motors, less understeer.

I'll try and find sometime and update the sheet with the later postings, I'll add the rake in the next version.

T6 euro 5 204 manual
T30
Front height = 360mm
Rear height = 370mm
Springs & Dampers = Bilstein B14
Wheel size = 18" Edition
Tyre size = 255/45/R18 Y 103
Tyre Manufacturer = Continental sport contact 5
Normal load = Tools and kit
Comfort = Nice, firm without being harsh.
ARB's = standard VW.

feels perfect, only problem with b14’s is they compress with too much weight, managed to snap rear spring, so replaced and raised 5mm

must say better than Vw lowered springs had on previous van
