One of the best threads I’ve seen on any forums. Very helpful I had rails supplied but not fitted when I had my van. These have been up the attic since as I didn’t relish the idea of smothering the fixing area with silicon sealer when fitting them. But after seeing this thread the bars are down and just waiting for some decent weather to fit them. Many thanks.

Are these definitely stainless steel?
For £3.59 highly unlikely, all the ones I’ve used on roofs are galvanised.
Stainless steel in contact with carbon steel isn’t great for avoiding body corrosion anyway.

I guess the rubber stops the contact with the bodywork, it’s just the M6 Steel Bar I’ve purchased is stainless steel, same for the flanged nuts, wanted to keep the theme going by having the washers stainless steel too, I managed to grab some from Amazon but the rubbers no way near as thick as it is on these ones

Would anyone have a rough guess at what length your cutting the threaded bar to, I'm at work and forgot to measure the bolts before I left and would like to get them prepped here ready for install tomorrow.

The outer length depends on what you are fitting but there are measurement suggestions for the inner length in this earlier post on the thread

I wound mine in till they bottomed out on the inside bodywork

I used stainless steel M6 bar, stainless steel roofing washers and stainless steel flanged nylock nuts, I used a pair of Knipex Cobras to grip the bar to stop it spinning when winding the nut on and tightening it down

Just bought some rails from LV and looking to fit them using the method shown here however I'm pretty useless when it comes to these things!!

I've read through the thread and what would be great would be a step by step guide to fitting and a shopping list of the items required. Anyone fancy giving it a go?

Did you put a washer under the awning rail as well or just on top as shown in picture?
I didn't fit my awning rail and in fact my converter has since refitted my roof bars to the pop top and didn't use this method at all so we'll see...

Morning all, i have used the silicon method and did worry about water entry, I will now remove the bars and do this thank you. If water has entered the van where do you suggest i look to try and dry before damage is done? if it isnt too late, thanks, Rod

Yep I've read through this method and I've been a engineer for over 20 years and I still can't get my head around it all because I'm useless when it comes to car stuff. Maybe the engineer in me makes me massively overthink stuff.

A full shopping list and maybe a video or step by step guide would be great
