One of the best threads I’ve seen on any forums. Very helpful I had rails supplied but not fitted when I had my van. These have been up the attic since as I didn’t relish the idea of smothering the fixing area with silicon sealer when fitting them. But after seeing this thread the bars are down and just waiting for some decent weather to fit them. Many thanks.

Are these definitely stainless steel?I used these under the studs - works a treat
under my awning rail I used the original ones from under the blanking bolts and then the roof washer and nyloc nut arrangement.
For £3.59 highly unlikely, all the ones I’ve used on roofs are galvanised.
Stainless steel in contact with carbon steel isn’t great for avoiding body corrosion anyway.
I guess the rubber stops the contact with the bodywork, it’s just the M6 Steel Bar I’ve purchased is stainless steel, same for the flanged nuts, wanted to keep the theme going by having the washers stainless steel too, I managed to grab some from Amazon but the rubbers no way near as thick as it is on these ones
The outer length depends on what you are fitting but there are measurement suggestions for the inner length in this earlier post on the thread

So having fitted the rails yesterday I thought I’d make the best of the incessant rain to see if i was indeed leak free. I didn’t really have a clue where the holes in the roof would appear inside the van other than a rough idea but as I already had the rear roof lining out to run some cables...
I wound mine in till they bottomed out on the inside bodywork
I used stainless steel M6 bar, stainless steel roofing washers and stainless steel flanged nylock nuts, I used a pair of Knipex Cobras to grip the bar to stop it spinning when winding the nut on and tightening it down
Ideally you want the slightly cupped bonded washers against the roof as they seal the surface and the thread - then you tighten them till they are almost flat.

Did you put a washer under the awning rail as well or just on top as shown in picture?Well, this is another pita job, but got there in the end! Leave lots of time for this one, not when rushing to prep for a weekend camping with the forum

Just bought some rails from LV and looking to fit them using the method shown here however I'm pretty useless when it comes to these things!!

I didn't fit my awning rail and in fact my converter has since refitted my roof bars to the pop top and didn't use this method at all so we'll see...
