Fancy you considering the possibility of electricity! That makes our decision much easier! Low power for fit wife and something approaching 400cc for me!How did I miss this thread?
I've been mountain biking for a few years now, started again after I used to ride in my late teens/early twenties.
First proper MTB back was a Virus Escarpe

Then a YT Jeffsy which I upgraded a loads of bits on

Then my current 2 bikes:

I'm currently thinking (once the finances have recovered slightly from my van build) that I might try and sell the hardtail as I barely ride it, and get myself a lightweight emtb. The new Canyon Spectral on:fly is really nice, with the TQ motor. My fitness these days is a second job to keep up to a level which I'm happy at and a low power emtb would just assist in that a bit, especially on the big, multi day wild riding trips I like to do in the Lakes, Peaks, Wales/Scotland etc.
Yeah I've sorted of known it's been coming, last year I did a week long trip in Torridon and nothing can prepare you for those hills - not even a full winter on zwift on the turbo trainer, plus running - I've ridden a couple of full power ebikes and whilst they're hilarious going up fire roads, I don't like the power and the overrun on them, I just want a normal MTB but with a bit extra 'me' - IE me at my fittest plus 30%. I don't get to ride enough (and don't have big enough hills locally) that will keep me fit enough for the big rides in the mountains, so I resort to zwift during winter (going to start doing that again soon, plus running, plus some weights).Fancy you considering the possibility of electricity! That's classed as a retro bike now and is very sought after! Some great kit on it - Chris king nothreadset, pace forks, XTR brakes and drivetrain!Don’t laugh . This is one of my many bikes. It’s old but I love it. Currently getting a service.

That's from the era when I mountain biked the first time around, reading MBUK magazine, and lusting after a Klein... Circa 1999, 00, 01.
