Skateboarding- Is This Gonna Be A Midlife Crisis?

Do what DaveBos did and get a long board, see these quite a bit on the promenade between Bournemouth and Boscombe especially at the Boscombe end where the road runs down to the roundabout by the pier, 30 odd year old teenagers come down the road and drift round the roundabout trailing a gloved hand on the tarmac, cool as fork!

I have always been rubbish on a skateboard but had a pair of inline skates back in my mid 40s and could skate backwards and do the big loops with a foot pointing in each direction but did have the excuse of trying to keep up with my two early teens lads, this was on the street, I wouldn't dare try it at a skate park or street without the kids present... bloddy peer pressure... and the potential threat of a restraining order these days.
If I did the @DaveBos approach (which is proper coolio) with my Weimaraner, knowing my luck we’d get up to speed and then he’d slam the anchors on to take a dump, pulling me off the board whilst holding his harness, into the biggest pile of ginger paste in the world (cos you don’t need doggy bags to clean up after him, but dustbin liners!).

I love that promenade and don't live too far from there. Trouble is out side of the skate park the roads and pavements round here look like they put a top coat of blacktop over gravel. I joke with my wife who moved into the area when we married that we've only just had tarmaced roads!

Go for it! I'm 52 and have a mate who's older than me and is often seen upside down at the top of a 20-foot concrete bowl putting the teenagers to shame...

@DaveyB I'm not sure, it's very narrow an probably pre-dates any standard sizes. I've tried finding out about it but al I keep turning up is Hamaco roller skates

I would get an adult scooter from decathlon or something like that - i was pretty good on a skateboard in my teens and I have done the same with my kids but it’s no where near as easy as I remembered and introducing the noggin to concrete never looks or feels cool

I will start this by saying that I mean no offence, but.......
It is thought that the NHS is soon to reach the point of peak demand as a result of Covid, which it may be unable to meet.
I'm not sure that a load of middle aged men turning up at A&E with various fractures is what it needs.
I can't think of a more likely way of ending up with a fracture than getting on a skateboard after 20 years of not getting on a skateboard.
Just my thoughts!

I know where you coming from, but this thread is 18 months old and was 'spammed' earlier this morning hence its come back to life.
But you are right ditch the skate board and buy a bmx instead :)

Right now the NHS doesn’t need any extra wannabe skateboarders. It’s a great pastime but as I found out a few days ago I don’t bounce as well as I used to.

The skateboarding becomes a midlife crisis when you think you’re impressing the giggling girls at the skate park!!!

It reminds me of when I made my then 3-year old squeal with delight making the “teacup” spin faster on the Merry-go-round! Great fun until we were getting off and the attendant commented on how “Grandkids can be hard work!” (The joys of being an older dad, eh?!!)

Yeah I won’t be doing it any time soon, went running last year when all the gyms closed, and spent the rest of the time catching up on DIY...

If you want to relive your youth in a skateboard way, I can highly recommend this film on my hangout through the 80's.
