Sliding-door handle (exterior) - loose

Today my handle is lose and all the internals are in the bottom of the door and can no longer open the door apart from reaching through passenger door :(
Have you taken the door lining off
Might be that the ‘pin’ has just fallen out
Common fault

Tori, I managed to sort it, I had to get a new handle and inner workings on the back of the handle too!
not-to hard to do…

out of memory I watched a sort of how to video on YouTube! Which showed what you need to do, don’t rush and take your time you will be fine!

I've noticed that mine is a bit loose rather than 'floppy' when compared to the driver and passenger handles. I might mention it to VW when it goes in for a service next month.

hopefully they will be helpful and get it sorted!

I've noticed my sliding door handle seems to have more play than usual. When the door is shut ( but unlocked ) there is about 10mm of play. The handle also pulls out a lot further than any of the other handles. I have taken the lock and handle fully out today but I cannot see anything that looks adjustable ?

Ok, further update... I tried taking the door latch on the inside off, taking off the mounting screws etc... but couldn't get it to come out. So rather than break something, I put it back together and had a rethink...

From what I can see the part (outer handle) shown with the arrow below, is made from one piece of plastic and when you pull on the handle this hooks onto a metal part in the mechanism and opens the door latch. I think the fact the plastic is bearing on metal may have caused wear to the plastic and as a result there is play in the handle. So I think my next step, is to order a new handle, fit it and see if there is less play in the handle.

Anyone know where I can get a new handle via mail order? My nearest VW parts store is an hours drive away.

I've spent ages searching the Internet for a solution but can't find anything, I really thought someone somewhere would know how to fix this. Looks like it's an expensive trip to VW

Hmmm... both my sliding doors are the same, and actually power latching won't start release until pulled up to 12-13 mm. But certainly can/will be pulled out as far as in your picture (27mm gap).

Front door handles indeed won't pull out as much as sliding door handles (15mm vs. 27mm).

Not wishing to steal the thread, but slightly in topic. When I'm in the shuttle with all doors shut, can't get out. Last time resorted to tilting the drivers seat forward, and stretching full length. The doors are electric sliding, and no problem closing or opening on the outside, with handle or key. Any suggestions?

My front handles are the same as yours, they dont pull out no where near as far as the sliding door.

Mine are the same - no where near as far. Perhaps I’ll just monitor for now.
