Sliding windows: flush fit or "normal".

Hi

I was just wondering if someone can tell me the pros and cons of sliding windows being flush or not. Is it just aesthetics or does one type leak less than another. We aren't bothered about being in stealth mode :) ?

TIA
Claire

Flush looks better from the outside.

VW flush windows notoriously leak.

Campervanglass.co.uk flush windows are supposed to be not leaky.

Non-flush windows leak much less, and have more see-through area, but don’t look as cool from the outside.

You will have your own requirements, and in my camper I went for non-opening windows. I have aircon when driving, and there is no shortage of ventilation with the roof up when stopped.

Thank you! Really useful! :)

Hi all, hope I'm posting this in the right place. I'm at a loss trying to find info on the internet about this.

So I'm looking to have flush sliders installed in my panel van, and noticed there are two different sizes - smaller see-through opening and a larger see-through opening.

I much prefer the larger opening area, and was wondering if it's possible to have these fitted? I'm struggling to find a company/fitter that installs these, everyone I've seen seem to fit the smaller opening.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated on this
1. Are the larger openings available - and can anyone recommend a fitter
2. Are these more prone to leaking than the smaller opening flush sliders, or do they both leak more than the normal set back openers?

Thanks

The larger window / sliding window just looks to be a genuine T6 sliding window.

The second picture is definitely OEM. They do leak and are about £600 per window.

The first image looks like a Camperglass flush version. The 2nd one could be a OEM flush window, I would avoid these as they are prone to leaking. If you want a flush look, try the Camperglass one. If you want a larger window which does not leak, you will need to go aftermarket but they will be recessed. Good luck

Thanks - I'm looking to replace a fixed window with an opening one and just wanted to know how it fits, any issues with the mechanism for opening since you've had it, and most importantly leaking when it rains

The fitting I’m not sure about as a company done it for me, no issues opening it mechanically but can be quite tight to slide open but that could be because it’s pretty new and I’ve not opened it that much. And no leaks at all and it’s seen really heavy downpours and a few jet washes. Hope that helps.

Hey, did you ever go ahead and replace it? I'm wondering how to replace mine, do you have to break the old window to remove it, or can you cut it off?
I feel it's such a waste of a good window I could sell on ebay :)

I have a fixed window on the sliding door and a recessed on on the driver side and would like to replace both with flush.
Thanks

Hi - I put a 'safari' window in the driver's side, the single pane of glass it replaced came out in one piece and is in a box in my garage

Sadly got whacked for a new manifold a few weeks ago so am short of cash at the moment so not put a slider in the passenger side yet

Thanks, did you pull our the sliding part or did you unglue/cut out the entire window? Thanks

It was just a single piece of glass that was removed - I got someone else to fit it as a cash job but he used a piece of wire to get it off in one piece

I've recently fitted two of the camper glass flush sliding windows in my van and I'm really happy with them. They look great and no leaks so far. They can be locked in different positions and the mechanisms seem nice.
