SMEV RECALL

That's wrong. Got mine before then.
I’ve seen that date from a couple of suppliers, slidepods have that date on their website. I also have a screenshot of an email that shows the same date.

Did your SKU match up and Dometic confirmed it’s an effected unit from the S/N?

Apprently there are 43,000 affected units so it doesn't look like a quick fix.
If like @Johny said it’s also before June 2020 that number doesn’t surprise me.

Had contact from Dometic today, they don’t currently have any timescale and are still working out logistics. The intention to be to send engineers to each customer to test and repair. With 43,000 units, that may take a while…

I bought mine early May,
Serial no.was an affected one but as it was still boxed so it was an easy swap for my supplier.

Starting to think I should have taken evomotion up on their refund option as by the sounds of it getting a replacement would be a quicker option than waiting on an engineer.

Well I have been waiting for Dometic smev 9722 to come back in stock ! Does this safety issue mean they won't be supplying new units for sometime?or what . Does anyone know??

If anybody knows it’s Dometic, here’s a link to their Customer Services

With the amount of replacements that suppliers will be making I reckon you will struggle for new supply for a while.

Checked mine, was a 91_ _ model so not affected. Van built in April 2020 so presumably from early 2020.

How the hell will they be able to visit so many vans and fix fault seems like huge task .has anyone experienced a problem with leaks? I bloody hope not!!

DXX thanks I've asked them but guessing they might be a tad busy at the moment.bloody shame this has happened.

DXX thanks for link Dometic have replied already said they cannot say when new stocks would be available.fair enough I spose but I have designed my van furniture to accommodate the 9722 just got to wait glad I haven't already got one really.people need to be so careful .

Finally got round to checking ours. Hob was purchased in late 2017.
There was no way I could see the sticker on the front of the sink, but there is a sticky label wrapped around one of the burner pipes on the underside, showing the SKU, which I managed to photograph. The test result stickers written in Slovak gave me some confidence it wasn't Chinese, and it's an 91 SKU, so all good to leave installed !

Website has updated with this clarification on dates which is helpful.

HOW TO QUICKLY CHECK IF YOUR COOKER IS AFFECTED

1. Is the installed cooker the original cooker you bought together with your vehicle?
If yes, please check the first registration or production date of your vehicle.
If this date is before October 2020, the cooker is not affected, and nothing needs to be done.
If the date is October 2020 or thereafter, you need to check the data label of the cooker.
If it is not the original installed cooker, you also need to check the data label of the cooker.

2. Did you buy the cooker from a retailer before October 2020?
If yes, the cooker is not affected, and nothing needs to be done.
If you bought the cooker from a retailer in October 2020 or thereafter, you need to
check the data label of the cooker.
If you don’t have the exact date of purchase, you also need to check the data label of the cooker.

3. The data label should be provided together with the cooker manual.
If not available, the data label can be found on the bottom of the cooker.
If you have no access to the bottom of the cooker, your dealer/installer can help you with this check.

So has anybody got any idea when new units will be available.

The manufacturer doesn’t know so I doubt anybody else does

Thought things might have moved on hopefully they will soon

Has anyone been contacted about a repair to their unit

My conversion company told me almost immediately after they knew about the recall, he checked mine and it needs to be changed.

He said don't expect a replacement soon, he ordered 10 new units but the previous customer befoe him had ordered 1000 units.

Expect a lot of overpriced units on ebay for a while before these are available again.

No doubt there will be plenty of defective secondhand units for sale that unsuspecting buyers will be completely unaware of.

They have added this paragraph recently -

We are working intensively on a solution. Your dealer will take all further steps (exchange, repair or refund) in consultation with us quickly and in an uncomplicated manner.

If I understood correctly they initially expected to repair them all themselves, looks like after they understood the scale of the issue they have had a change of heart

I find the fact that there must be lots of people blissfully unaware of a possible problem really quite scary?

If somebody (a concerned owner / user) alerts Trading Standards that there is equipment potentially leaking flammable / explosive gas into a confined living space there might be some compulsory rapid action.
Otherwise it’s a voluntary re-call with all of the financial considerations that accountants prioritise.
