Snow and ice performance of T6

Impressive, but good tyres actually go a long way.
I put full winters on Mrs Loz’s smart (rwd) and it is unstoppable..

4motion is good and the overall feel is more planted but you need to find space for a second set of wheels with winters and just have a regime for swapping them twice a year.

The amount of times i'm in field, down dirt tracks, in the middle of no where.

If its worth the massive cost increase and Fuel??

I think so, but I use mine for overlanding so have 4motion and Michelin Lattitude Cross tyres on fulltime. The fuel consumption on my tests is more speed related so I don’t bother worrying about it tbh.

Don’t discount all season tyres like the Hankook 4s. We’re brilliant on my Jimmy. Although not sure on transporter size options. Yes as Loz says tires are a major factor

Decent tyres would be a good and less expensive compromise in this country. There are some excellent all year tyres like Michelin cross climate that will be very good all rounders or a second set of winter tyres/wheels swapped over in Oct and back in March. My golf has 2 sets and the difference is staggering when it gets wintery but the van will have some all weather tyres. A 2wd on winter tyres will often out perform a 4wd on summer tyres in the snow.

I agree with the above.
I also had a 5 series, and a 3, and a 1 series, and they all were so bad in the snow, they would come off my driveway, but as the drive had a very slight incline going back on, it would never get back on without a push.
We got fed up with worrying about snow in the winter, and purchased a cheap set of wheels, with snow tyres, and this was night and day, and solved our issue.

As for my current T6. Mine is a 2wd, and I don't have a fraction of the snow or mud issues I had with the BMWs.
I'm only running a normal set of tyres at the moment, but it's still fine.

Saying that, I do wish i'd of gone for the 4motion in the first place.

I have the 4motion but as Loz tyres make a huge difference. My winter tyres stay on all year round as we don’t get many long spells of hot dry weather up here. The 4motion with winter tyres combo not only works really well in the snow but is also great in the wet generally. You know those bottom twitching moments when you are doing 60mph and hit a deep puddle - no probs at all

If you get 2wd get an extra set of winter tyres on steel rims. You can pick steel rims up cheap and the winter tyres will make a massive difference

Thanks. Looking at the nokians or also the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D - anyone experience of the dunlop. From the ratings, looks like wet weather performance is better?

Think I am right in saying the Devonports need 215 60 R17 C, and that a load rating of 104 is correct. Please, though, correct me if I am wrong.

I have Dunlop winter sport on my golf, no complaints and were very good in the snow when it was around and a good overall compromise in ratings to suit the British weather.

Must admit I was disappointed with the T6 in the snow. It is still on the original tyres though so may change the brand once they are shot. I do find the option to not turn off the traction control a tad daft though. Still with the right tyres I probably won’t notice it. Is a big difference from my Subaru for winter performance lol.

Interestingly I went from an Impreza with only summer tyres to a T6 with 4 season tyres, and the T6 is so much better.

I ordered my van with goodyear cargo vector 2 they have the mud and snow markings .last week I got up some reasonable hills where others were sliding and skidding all over ,had to stop a few times as cars were stuck in front on the hill and it griped well and set off again .I ran snow tyres on my last van and it went anywhere .

So the answer is to get some better tyres then. Will give me some faith back in the abilities again lol
