Sound Proofing T6 Cab

No engine noise whatsoever coming through although it was pretty good anyway. The tyre hum however is still there and loud. Seems to peak at about 65 mph. I'm off to have to find some more mild mannered tyres I think as it was almost unbearable on the way home today.

Well I’ve recently got rid of the tyre hum (Cargo Vector M&S) so looking forward to loosing a bit more engine noise after doing the scuttle.
I wouldn’t change my Cargo Vectors, they maybe a bit noisy but they stick to the road like glue and I’ve just got 41K miles out of one pair, the other pair still have approx‘ 10-15K to go.

How much sound deadening do I need for the under Matt cab area please? I'm doing the back area now.. Doing the cab next week when I do the leisure battery etc.

Thank you

For those interested in sound deadening the scuttle I used 2mm Silent Coat with 30mm Silent Coat Noise Buffler 30 applied on top.
Although not a big area it‘s unlikely to be found clean and best done with card templates to avoid wastage.
One 1m x 1m Noise Buffler sheet is enough with a small amount left over. All faces were covered inc’ the drivers side (RH) blanking plate for ventilation.
The only places not covered are the passenger side ventilation intake and the scuttle drain ports left and right. When you fit the wiper mechanism back you may need to trim the foam slightly, I left mine as it is only just touching in one place.
It has made a significant difference to the cab noise level, well worth doing.

Any pointers / threads showing how to get in there?

Although I have a quiet engine

Remove both front wipers you might need a puller if they are tight.
Remove the battery cover if you have one.
Remove the full width rubber seal running under the bonnet along the front edge of the scuttle cover.
Remove the scuttle cover panel, pull it forward away from the windscreen.
Remove the front wiper mechanism.
Dismount the wiring loom and alarm sounder to make lining easier.

Replace in reverse order.

Thanks, I'm not sure I'm up for that one given all that effort. Only because it's limited returns on my petrol engine. Can imagine the diesels really benefit from it.

@DXX I’ve had a look in my scuttle area and it’s pretty dirty and damp so I plan on cleaning it but then came across your post about sound deadening in there as well.

I looked in the scuttle drains because I’m getting a bit of condensation on the cab windscreen when it’s cold, just a bit more than I would expect.

Does the sound deadening absorb water in there? I don’t want to clean it out to prevent damp and then put something in there that will become a damp store!

No the Sound Buffler is foil lined and closed cell, I’ve been driving in torrential rain and no issues. Well worth doing.

I used the theory that the sound deadening is to reduce resonance in the panels not a layer for blocking noise. Hence, this:

So I also did the steps and will do the B-pillar plastics. And then on to door skins, assembly carriers and door cards

But also personal choice, not to spend too much on this. What you see was half a box of silentcoat
