Indeed, the lock is superb.

So good it'll still be attached to the section of steering wheel the tea leaf snips with croppers (if theyre stealthy) or grinder (if theyre in a hurry).

A cost effective and stealthy method of preventing attack via the OBD port - shift a few of the wires to different positions, and use an OBD plug and socket to make an "adapter" that you or your garage can use to correct the pinout when you want to plug in. Don't keep it in the vannfor obvious reasons.

If you go for a secondary immobiliser system make sure it has an anti hijack function - if it won't start with the code you give them they'll come back and chop off a finger until you tell them, but if theres a duress code they'll be a mile up the road before it cuts out.

And remember, as the OPs friend has discovered, it's all for nowt if the house in which the keys are stored has nothing more exciting than a Yale lock to protect it. A proper alarm (not Verisure or Simpli Safe nonsense), proper locks, sash jammers, hungry rottweilers...

Check the streets locally it may be found parked up to cool. Mine was found like this after it was stolen in the next village. Put it everywhere. Mine was found because police put it on facebook and someone rang in. Some damage to dash board. Looking for a tracker?

I use a stopcock pro amongst other things. What ever you have you need to use it.

Yep they actually broke into the house while the owners were in and just nicked the keys. Needless to say our keys are kept hidden upstairs!
I’ll see if I can get any photos from the owners thanks
I leave my keys on the stairs now so they won't venture upstairs. I rather lose the vehicle than be attacked or worse the kids. One of the lads had his house broken in for his keys which he leaves out of sight. Luckily they found before they went upstairs because the officer that attended said their latest thing is one bloke goes upstairs and beats the crap out of you until the others finds the keys. Absolute scumbags

They try to get in my house and the police are on the way before they've taken their first step thanks to ADT.

I’ve got a very cheap tracker on mine but works a treat.
ST901 from eBay £18. £10 Giff Gaff payg sim and it’s easily trackable if van gets taken. Only 2 wires needed to power it.

Auto correct - corrected

Leaving a non-immobilised key downstairs will cause them grief - the van may turn over but not start (i think the starter will engage, anyone confirm?)

Tbh, its a van. I'd rather the scumbags take that than spill a drop of blood.
However, if the situation arose and had to use reasonable force against an intruder, then so be it.
As far as I'm concerned, if they are in my territory uninvited, then they are going to be willing to hurt me and mine.
However, am very aware that they will be used to violence more than I am so - take the bloody van. I'll get another one.

As to the trackers - do you think that one day it will just give a heads up to the thieves (once the system gets hacked) where to find the vehicles in the first place. Will save them driving around looking for one.

And just why would he say that?

They want the motor not a prison sentence for GBH.
If they can take a motor without entering the house, they will.
If they can enter the house and find the key, then all good.
Coming up and waking you would be what they MIGHT do if they can't find the key.
Getting violent would be a last resort if you were being stubborn.

One beating the crap out of you whist the others look for the key makes no sense ... and somebody has been watching too much Netflix.

How you deter any confrontation is your business, but I really don't think you should give everyone sleepless nights by telling fairy tales.

Not fairly tales pal but the sad reality of the world today. And I would also prefer someone not to be injured just for a piece of metal no matter what action hero you think you are from watching cebeebies. There's been a few instances between Sheffield and Manchester area where its happened and to my work colleagues son who was threatened with a knife. So not fairly tales at all pal!! And just for the record I prefer the safety of my family above all else no matter what super hero stuff you come out with!

You get these muppets that spend £100k+ on a Range Rooney, fill the garage with worthless tat while the expensive car sits outside for all to see, spend £00.00 on home security, then wonder why they're picked on for a break and get slapped about for keys.

It's wrong and it shouldn't happen, but it occasionally does. I've got my van sorted (sadly it won't fit in the garage, too tall) and if they want the keys then ADT will be monitoring the CCTV and giving a live commentary to the police before the sheetbags have managed to open a window or door on the house.

It ain't cheap, but it's cheaper than a new van and you can't take back a kicking. But most people do bugger all and leave themselves vulnerable.

This "if they want it bad enough they'll take it " is defeatist b*****ks that people merely use as an excuse for doing nothing.

Keys downstairs, help yourself. Not interested in having somebody mooching through the house while we (and the kids) are asleep in bed.
My brother had four visits to his house in the early hours from people looking for the keys to his Golf R. They put a rock through his front window while his 5 year old was stood there looking at them.
Another mate of mine had his brother hanging onto the door of his RS4 after they'd threatened him with a blade.
Not interested.

At home my security is a SeceuroGlide Excel roller shutter door. Out of site out of mind. One criteria when selecting the van was to ensure I could garage it.

I recognise that many can’t stow it away, but as suggested above many car owners put personal convenience above security in their priority list. Does safety falter mid list for them too I wonder?

I got anti-bandit film so I'd stand there laughing at them. It was a lot less expensive than a Golf R, as were locks, sash hammers, professional alarm system, so I can leave my keys wherever it pleases me and not where it is convenient for sheetbags.
