Struggles with motorway speed.

You must have missed my post where I said how I checked the limiter with VCDS.
There are several ways of applying the limiter. I had an ex RAC van brought to me that had been to 2 separate garages for the limiter removing, but it was still limited. I checked with VCDS and there are a couple of places where it can be implemented. The engine module has a check box for speed limit, this had been cleared by the garages, but they had missed the second setting in the Adaptations, this was still set. Have you checked both locations?

PS, we’re trying to help, you might want to wind yer neck in a bit.

There's no neck winding necessary. I've been clear and polite. This is a friendly forum and nothing I have said has deviated from that. I have no reason or desire to cause offence, and I'm sorry if somehow I have. If I have missed any details in my replies, or if they've been short, like the one you have cited above, it's because I have been in and out of the house, multitasking work on the van.

Yes, there has been a focus on limiters.
The behaviour of the van doesn't suggest it has anything to do with a limiter because it struggles both before and after 70 - something I should have clarified earlier.
However, thank you for the advice and I'll check your suggestion.

All good mate. Your comment re bouncing between the keyboard and the van makes perfect sense re overlooking some of the requests for info.

wants to change down to 6 to keep it going at 70
local place, Cardiff.
I paid the extra for the rolling road so they could smooth out the power curve. And got a printout.
It was much quicker after
I’m just re-reading the thread and noticed these two posts.

Please excuse me if I’ve not yet caught up with any apt replies, but just wondering;

When you had the remap and it ‘was much quicker after’, did you already have the big wheels and tyres?

If not, I wonder whether having them fitted has over-geared it, causing the DSG to want to change down to 6th @ 70?

I think you have also mentioned a top box?
This could also contribute to our brick-shaped vans struggling even more to cut through the wind resistance?!?
Andy

Edited again, as read some more to find 225/65 r17s, same as I run on my Winter Devonports. Only about 4-5% bigger than standard and don’t cause my ~185ps DSG LWB Kombi to struggle, but mines almost empty, with no top box.

Yeah, the top box definitely doesn't help!
I'll make a fairing, which should make a difference.

I don't think I had the A/T tyres fitted at the time of the remap.

I'm getting read-outs that suggest there could be a turbo fault. But as mentioned earlier, I've yet to discover if changing the fuel filter has made a difference.
Start small...

I’m in Trowbridge, Wilts.
So also have a 30-40 min trek to get to a motorway to ‘test’ stuff.
(M4 from Chippenham or Bath).
Hope you find a simple, and not too expensive fix soon.

Not sure what the logs from vcds mean, but if it's not boosting correctly for one reason or another then it would 100% cause this type of issue.

I remember trying to drive a car which had blown a boost hose off, had about 3bhp if i was lucky haha.

Thanks, I'll have a dig around and check the hoses - it could be something as simple as that

It could be (and I have had a holed intercooler on a previous car which reduced performance) but in such a case I would expect you to notice the effects of that in much poorer acceleration up to motorway speed too, whereas what you describe seems to be more noticeable at a higher cruising speed.
Did you put the roof box on as soon as you got the van, or have you got experience of motorway speeds without the box on top?

That’s a very good comment from @DaveD it brought back a memory. The intercooler split on my transporter and I was up and down the gears coming back from Penrith on the M6. Fuel consumption was terrible. Got home and looked through the grill, could see oil around the split. Did not get a EML so did not have any warning over than the van being gutless

Ya I’ve had a split hose on the intercooler on a car but power wasn’t really affected but blow lots of black smoke when the blocked dpf was deleted..

150 DSG camper here and mines plenty quick enough. Rarely go over 70 in it though. Generally sit at 65mph on motorways etc it’s on 20’s and lowered so this feels plenty quick enough.

Yes. It did have a better top-speed without the box but there were still other T6s passing me at speeds I couldn't manage. I had commercial wheels and no roof stuff. It's been above 80.
70 was a ballpark figure I used at the start of this thread, which unfortunately coincides with a commonly used restricter value.

Possibly a combination of issues then rather than a single cause. I hope you can get it sorted.

Thank you.
The engine itself is smooth and well looked after.
Fuel pressure is good, and today I'll get a chance to see if changing the fuel filter has made any difference.
Low-end torque is good.
No leaks or smoke.

It's pointing towards a turbo/boost pressure issue.
I'll carry out more tests this afternoon, and hopefully, once I get it resolved, it can help others in the future.

A couple years ago heading back home from Wales a IC hose wore through. Tiny hole, noise was obvious and went into limp mode as soon as you booted it.

Tyres and steel wheels: I am running Falken 235/65 winter tyres on GP steels and it feels a little long-legged, but still goes dam well and flys over 70 np. Speed is all relative to a 2t+ van with a 2l 180 diesel engine (new now but was still good when shagged). I am always impressed how it goes.

Good luck

Thanks, someone else mentioned their intercooler.
There are a lot of hoses for me to check today!

It'll give me an opportunity to find a space for the engine/coolant pre-heater I want to squeeze in there

ah, you were talking about the intake charger, gotcha.
