Those tyres are original, VW OEM, van-rated tyres, with very stiff sidewalls and high recommended pressures.
Have look through this thread for replacement tyres;

Hi, I love the b37's, what size tyres are you running?
I'm running 19's on my T32. Considered both 18's and 20's but this was a nice compromise in my humble opinion. The spacing of the spokes is lovely and the 'Dark Sparkle' looks really nice against Induim Grey paint.

I wouldn't change them for anything.

Only thing to be mindful of tho is your Tyre options on 19's will be significantly reduced. I mean this in terms of finding a set that are both Load Rated and Speed Rated.

As well as this, there is the compound density to consider (how quickly they wear our). It's a bit of a Goldilocks situation, you've got to try a couple before you find what works best for you.

Personally I don't mind this as I'm happy to spend the extra on decent tyres - given they are the only point of contact between the road, your very expensive van and you inside

Thank you for your reply, have you used spacers and what tyre size have you used? They do look a quality wheel.

Hi all, first post on here and just read the the entire 42 pages currently on this thread.

Thank you for all the info and advice so far.

I'm looking to replace some Wolfrace Dortmund 18x8.5" ET42 gloss black wheels & 235/55R18 tyres on a T32 4Motion but I wanted a few things from the new wheels such as bronze coloured and no spigots etc as well as the load rating.

I've spotted some that I really like the look of and have found no mention of on here but have 3 specs below.

Velocity Wheels clicky

18x8" 5x120pcd ET40 900kg CB 65.1mm

20x8.5" 5x120pcd ET35 900kg CB 65.1mm

20x10" 5x120pcd ET42 900kg CB 65.1mm

The 18" version is almost a direct swap but I'm left with a few uncertainties on the 20" because of the accompanying change in tyre width.

Is the 20x8.5" ET35 too low an offset for a 50mm lowered van with either 255/40R20 or 265/40R20 tyres to cause any rubbing - particularly on the front?

If so

Is a 20x10" ET42 on the front too wide running the same tyre to give much wheel rim protection or issues with the inner rim near suspension components?

Thanks.

Your post and the wheels intrigued me. So I’ve done a little digging;

1) There are only a couple of posts on T6F mentioning Velocity wheels,

2) As yours is 4motion I believe the front and rear tyres need equal radii/circumferences/diameters. Many peeps run ‘staggered’ wheels, often 8.5” fronts with 10” rears. I do not know of anyone fitting 10” fronts?

3) Trade member @Dav-Tec is a supplier of Velocity wheels and I’m sure could answer any queries.

Hope this helps.
Andy

That's really helpful. Thank you Andy.

Hi and Welcome to the forum.

A few answers to your questions above that will hopefully help. 20x8.5 ET35 on the front is no problem at 50mm lowering. It's a good offset for that size on the front and in theory will work with both the 255/40 and 265/40. Be aware though, that the 255/40 isn't sufficiently load rated for a T32. You need 103 load rating minimum and the 255/40 is typically only 101 rated.

You can run a 10" front with ET42, I've done it for a couple of customers, but only with very narrow, stretched tyres, so I wouldn't recommend it for you. You'll get some poke out past the arch which might look a bit unusual and with a correctly sized tyre you'll get some rub on the inside. You wouldn't get any rim protection from either a 255/40 or 265/40 tyre. The 265/40 would give a slight stretch and the 255/40 would be quite a big stretch.

As said in a post above, you need very similar rolling radius front to back on the 4motion, so at 50mm lowering I would recommend a 275/40 on the 10" rear and a 245/45 on the 8.5" front. They will sit well on those width wheels, wouldn't rub at all on 50mm lowering and are close enough (0.5mm) front to back on rolling radius to work with the 4motion. You'll also get all the load rating you would need, plus some rim protection if you go for a decent mid range or premium brand tyre. Budget tyres tend to offer less rim protection, so if that's a priority go for something mid range or premium.

I can supply the Velocity wheels, so if you would like me to check stock at Velocity and send you a quote please send me a DM and I'll do the rest.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks very much for the welcome and the wealth of knowledge Chris.

I'm new to both VW and Transporters and the sheer choice of everthing available has me in option paralysis every single time!

As you said, most of the 255/40R20 are 101 load rated but I had found just a couple of premium brand 104 rated thinking that the slight reduction in overall width and diameter might help if anything was tight for space with 265 etc.

255/40R20 HL 104Y XL TL Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5
&
255/40R20 HL 104Y XL SI RG TL Michelin Pilot Sport 5 PS5 Acoustic

That's really great info on the rim vs tyre widths plus the premium vs budget benefits too.

Would it be worth looking at 8.5" Wheels all round with the same size tyres on all corners for the 4Mo requirement and also to enable me to rotate whenever required?

Thanks again,
Regards
Ste

Thanks to you for finding a couple of T32 load rated tyres in that size. I'll make a note of them for future reference.

Yes, you could consider 8.5" all round. The 2 main reasons for the wider rear are 1, a more concave look to the spokes as they dive in towards the hub and 2, they sit a bit further out towards the arch, rather than tucking further in.

If you run 8.5" all round then I would recommend a spacer on the rear wheels to bring them out to sit as they would if they were the wider ones, unless the van is a Caravelle or California with the thicker door card on the sliding door.
