T5.1 Power sliding door button flashing?

Its going to be tricky one to confidently diagnose

The light up dash button is obviously a door open light but it is also a fault indicator, if an error occurs with the elec door system the corresponding door button will flash to highlight this, after seeing a flashing button i would expect VCDS too log and report an error code relating to it

Im not sure what values can be extracted using vcds for door position ?
Obviously open and shut (or perceived open and shut) can be seen, the door position is measured along the top rail, the hinge part has an integral sensor (you can see the 2 small wires that connect to it with the door open) that sits vertically above the top track and moves along it, this sensor somehow wirelessly knows the track position, it could be analogue and measure all movement/positions or it could measure 'steps' and register movement at several points along the track ?
I guess you would just have to have a look with VCDS, go into the door control module and see what measuring blocks are available

Going back to the overall issue, if its a moisture issue i would check the area the control module sits in the rear of the quarter panel as its not uncommon for water to get in through the middle rail bolts, also inside the sliding door itself there is a module in that wirelessly connects to the main control module to complete the system so would also have an effect on the system (although its only powered when the door is shut so make of that what you will in relation to your issue and observations)
Thanks for all the insight. I don’t have VCDS so it falls to @c_paul to do some digging here. I’ll see if I can get hold of it anyway, and put some thought into the whole thing. The wireless one is news to me, although as you say doesn’t seem a likely culprit to issues when the door is open, if it only comes into play when it’s shut.

Not had much time to mess about with things. Interestingly when I was opening and closing the door (using the interior handle) from fully open to half shut or thereabouts, maybe 10-20 times (just to see if it could get it to fail - typically it was behaving itself), a couple of occasions the latching motor turned, so the door must have ended up in a confused state as to its position and thought it was closed.

Really need to get hold of vcds so I can see what that turns up. The light has been on more often than not when commuting recently.

Okay, I have an update for everyone. Mine has got much worse so I now have a chance to experiment with it not working!

The other day, it was complaining on the dashboard multifunction display that the door was open when it was not. Since then the door was totally dead. Nothing. Indicator on door switch is just flashing orange.

When I got home this afternoon, the mfd thought the door is closed. Door wouldn't even trigger the cabin light.

I connected VCDS. Logs below.

I had a dig around and unbolted the door control module. It was bine dry. No obvious water ingress. I removed and reseated each plug.

Now the power close works, power slide opening works but it will not close. Which would suggest pinch sensor. FTR, the dealer replaced the pinch sensor. MFD now recognises open and close. Interior light works correctly.

I am tempted to just replace the door controller module but they are very expensive.

Questions:
Does the door have multiple ways to tell the body control module if it is open? If so what are they? It appears that the cabin light control and the MFD sensor / method for determining the door is open are different. Do these all go through the door control module?

How can I get a wiring diagram for the sliding door system? I have no idea which plug is which. Knowing how the modules are interconnected will help massively!

Unlike the title of the thread, yours seems to be T6 MY17, thus

With VCDS you could start by checking door contact switches + locking statuses of the doors.

No key in the ignition lock (thus ignition off) - drivers door open (to keep BCM alive)
VCDS > Select > 09-Central electrics > Advanced measuring values > Groups 5 & 7.

Please post also BCM blockmap data (measuring values) - as above no key in the ignition lock - drivers door open.
Preferably a few blockmaps about different conditions - e.g. door working ok, door dead, etc.

VCDS > Applications > Controller Channel Map

Click "Go" - when finished there will be file blockmap-09-... and in folder C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs\....

Thanks Robert. I have just seen your post. Bang on, yes it is a t6. I am just hijacking the OPs thread because I have the same issue.

I have done loads of diags today.

From what I can tell there are about 3 different failure modes going on but I only managed to reproduce 2 of them. After 15 minutes of fiddling, all the faults tend to clear and I am unable to reproduce any errors.

Fault condition: door totally dead. VCDS bcm reported locking status of the door as SAFE. I.e deadlocked. ??!! I only had this for a short time then it cleared. I could manually open and close the door in this state.

Fault condition: dashboard light flashing. Door will open using power slide but will not close. I can close manually and soft close pulls the back of the door in. When closed dashboard light flashes. Pressing button opens the door. VCDS reports door lock status correctly but Pinch sensor value as open circuit. Some times opening door heavily returns pinch sensor to normal ‘not operational’. Knocking the sensor correctly changes the value from not activated to activated. When it is reading open circuit, pressing on sensor does nothing. If this value goes open when door is closing the door immediately stops. When value is open circuit, dashboard light flashes. When it goes normal, dashboard light goes out unless door is open in which case light goes solid. At the moment the door spends about 50% of the time broken like this in between normal operation. holding the button on the dash will manually close the close but will not trigger the soft close to pull the back of the door in so not much help.

Unable to reproduce fault condition: door opens but interior light doesn’t activate.

Separately VCDS is reporting a module communication error. I haven’t been able to tie down when this is happening / the symptoms.

So far as I can tell there is either a wiring fault (damaged cables / poor connection), a power supply issue causing the module to misbehave, damaged / faulty control module, damaged pinch sensor / damaged wiring to pinch sensor, or a combination of more than one of the above.

The fact there is more than one issue and this pinch sensor has been replaced already suggests wiring damage or module fault.

I will look at the diagrams tomorrow and do more testing.

Is there a way in VCDS or the likes of carista to see the door ‘positions’ in live data? It would then be a case of seeing what changes during this ‘bumping’ operation and perhaps that would start to lead down the path of where to look at in terms of wiring or hardware.

Tagging @Pauly as I suspect you may have some knowledge on this front. I know there are also other gurus but not sure who would be best to pull in for discussion!
Yes. VCDS has measuring blocks for door open position scale (0 to 813 on mine), three door open sensors, anti trap sensor, door locked, child lock, handle pulled and I am sure others that I haven’t been able to work out what they translate to yet.

Hi,

Did you resolve the issue with your powered door if so what was the issue as I have a similar issue.

Thanks
Phil
