T6.1 Heater blowing Hot-Air only

We repair these with genuine parts , modify it so hopefully it dosent go again, takes around couple hours on a 6.1

I've merged in my stand alone thread to this one as it seems I have the beginnings of the same issue and (hopefully) that may forewarn others.

I did have the van centre look at it last Thursday during an end of warranty service but they said there was no damage and re did the calibration. It was fine on Saturday but by Sunday it was back to the odd behaviour that started 1-2 weeks ago where the motor and flap seem to be in constant motion with a whirring/clicking noise several times a second - I now think this may be what I had tried to trace a little earlier as a loose wiring rattle behind the dash.

I'm going to follow up with the van centre as warranty ends this month.

So small update - the motor is now repositioning about twice a second when the air con has reached "stable temperature" as if it can't find it's position.

Local van centre have looked at it and agreed it's a warranty issue but need to wait for parts and then have the van for 2 days to take the dash to bits.

So to add to the collective knowledge if you hear what seems like a rattle from the centre dash of your 6.1, or the sounds of flaps moving more like the wings of a bird, check to see what your servo motor is doing. If it's repositioning almost constantly I think it's the early stages of this fault occurring.

Keep in mind it will reposition itself if you have climate control - but there is a noticeable difference in how often and under "normal" conditions the motor doesn't seem to "hunt" to the right position - it's one move.

Not ideal on a 3 year old van at the higher end of the spec range.

Yes I will be taking the All-In at the end of the month unsure.png

Van is now fixed. So far I've not had any new rattles introduced from the work, which was my biggest fear, though there is a minor scuff in the trim around the gear lever I'm sure wasn't there before.

Let's see what happens in 3 years time...

Good evening, I have had this fail on my 05/21 T6.1 camper van, I realise this is an older thread but as the van only has only done 10k it has waited until this week to fail.
I have bought the updated part (7LA 898 002A ) and have the lower dash apart, you mention that you modify the part, could you explain how please.
Any tips you have will be very much appreciated, many thanks , Rob

Anyone had any luck getting VW to do this fix out of warranty.

Mine has broken for the second time, on a less than 4 years old van, so I contacted VW they asked me to get a local dealer to do a diagnostic. Rang the dealer and was quoted £120 +vat just to diagnose the problem. I've mentioned to VW in a second email that this is a manufacturing fault and there are lots of cases all over forums, so don't see why anyone should have to pay to fix their mistake.

Basically this falls on deaf ears they just repeat that a diagnosis needs to be done.

Anyway anyone else had any luck when out of warranty?

A well documented engineering design issue. Like all automotive manufacturers it will not be covered outside their warranty. So always get a good aftermarket warranty. This is the sham of all manufacturers building parts to the bare minimum standard. They don’t build them like they used to.

Yeah one of the worst transporters I've had regards build quality. Mine was built 2020 so factory shut, maybe they got local farmers in to build them during lockdown
