T6.1 ignition delay

Hi everyone.
There's a delay between about 8-10 seconds before my engine starts. So when I depress the clutch, then onto full ignition, nothing happens . Then the engine starts . Has anyone else experienced this? And is this normal? I've recently purchased and it's on a 22 plate.
Something to do with the glow plug getting up to temp maybe?
The delay is consistently about 8-10 seconds?

My 2019 T6 150 has a similar starting pattern, key in and turn with clutch down and nothing happens for 2 secs or so, engine doesn't even turn over, after 2 secs starts no problem

A short wait is a second or two is probably OK for the temps in England and Wales at the moment but very much longer is not normal, its not Scotland at -20C or lower. Mine is starting quite quickly though I often wait a fraction before turning the key the whole way.

Mine too on a 22 plate. Takes about a second or two before it does anything. Putting it down to cold weather.
Giving the battery a little topup charge to make sure it isn't that.

I assumed the short delay was the glow plugs doing their thing, but like others have said it is normally only a second or two.

What are the dash lights showing during the 8 seconds before the engine starts?

The dash lights all come on as expected. All systems are operational but nothing happens for that period of time. I've never come across that issue before. Would be a difficult if I was a " get away driver"
As an add on..I also have a " headlight range control ) fault...but that's probably for a different discussion.

These aren't like engines of yore where the ignition switch activates a solenoid which in turn directly powers the starter. Oh no.

On these you turn the key and the computer reads all the various sensors and then the computer powers the solenoid and starts the engine when it has decided everything is pukka - there is no direct connection between the switch and starter.

A few seconds delay while the computers take a vote or the glow plugs do their thing is normal, but 8-10 seconds isn't.

In the really cold weather, mine takes around 4 to 5 seconds to engage the starter, but it always feels like a lot longer.

Does the engine start fine when it finally attempts it? Or have you got a pause, quite a few cranks, then fires into life?

If you’ve only recently purchased it, chances are it’s been sat around doing nothing, combined with the cold weather, isn’t great for the battery. Being almost 3 years old it’s getting ready for a new one anyway.

3 years for a battery?

That's interesting..I wasn't aware of that?
Bit like Airbus without the cables then?

It turns over fine when the ignition kicks in yes? Just looking at the previous comments about computer checks on systems before the ignition kicks in...the headlights do a check first then the fault ( headlight range control error ) pops up on the dash ..maybe the two are connected?
I'm guessing if course..

I have a Global Telemetrics S5 tracker system in mine, occasionally, but not all the time it can take 8 to 10 seconds to 'ignite', that's while the satellites converse, they tell me.
Do you have a tracker/immobiliser installed?
(I'll go Meta Trak next time)
