T6.1 ignition delay

On my van if I wait for all the checks to be completed and all the dash check lights to go off before turning the key to start, it starts straight away.
I wasn't able to check the order of the dash lights going off, but they go off sequentially between around 1 second for the first one and around 5 seconds for the last one.

I have a Global Telemetrics S5 tracker system in mine, occasionally, but not all the time it can take 8 to 10 seconds to 'ignite', that's while the satellites converse, they tell me.
Do you have a tracker/immobiliser installed?
(I'll go Meta Trak next time)
Yes I have a rewire tracker but I haven't had it put in my name yet and I'm guessing an immobiliser too?

Yes mine does exactly the same..if I turn the key to the first position and then wait for all the dash lights to go off...then turn the key , it ignites (8 seconds)
Or if I go straight to ignition ( 8 seconds)
Sounds like it's checking all the systems but I've never known anything like that before in cars? I guess this maybe a question for the VW garage?

Just back from being out in the van - The actual glow plug light goes out first (in leas than a second) followed by the rest (within 3 or 4 seconds).

I think it would start as soon as the glow plug light goes off, but haven't verified.

I also generally turn key part way at first. I am often outside so have to depress brake pedal with my hand to the allow engine to turn over. I can not see lights from the footwellr but just watch fuel needle rising then tun ignition key all the way. Starts immediately no delay.

Just an update on this. I have taken this into a VW dealership and they said there was a fault between the signal and the key fob they remapped and told me all was now working as it should..I'd arranged to collect the van the following morning only to be told the engineer couldn't start the van and they needed it for another day..the delay on the ignition is still there they say and and it's not showing a fault on any of there tests..they are now saying the delay could be caused by an immobilizer or tracker but they they just don't know and are asking me if I want the vehicle back? I said I'd like it fixed please. I should also have mentioned that this van has another month on the warranty but they seem to be suggesting I take it elsewhere...?

It has a factory immobiliser.

I'm presuming it's with the selling garage? If they can't fix it then it's up to them to seek an outfit that can, not for you to run around and do their bidding for them.

I'd remind them that the fault became apparent within 6 months of purchase and if they can't or won't repair it you're entitled to a refund, less a nominal amount for the use you've had from it in the meantime. That is your legal right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

I'm I right in suggesting that if it is an immobilizer issue then this would be a factory fitted one on a 22 plate?
Correct unless the previous owner has installed an addition immobiliser (unlikely) or a tracker, which may be the case. Has it always taken this long before starting?

That's interesting..I wasn't aware of that?
Bit like Airbus without the cables then?
With the start stop system the start is entirely controlled by the ECU not the ignition lock switch - the ignition lock switch is just another "please start" signal.

On mine I'm now just used to pressing the brake (DSG not manual) and flicking the ignition on briefly. Try it on yours.

No. Unfortunately I didn't buy it through them but first experience with VW is not a good one.

Very unlikely he would have fitted another immobilizer? Yes it has a tracker and I have had the van for four weeks..I'm not sure if the previous owner had this problem for long.

Just for info, I’ve replaced my battery tonight and the van starts pretty much instantly. No hesitation after turning the key at all…
Maybe ask VW to drop a spare battery in to see if it cures the issue?

I've had a terrible time getting this sorted and a headlight warning fault ( under warranty) . They have now said it " should be ok" with the ignition and want me to take it back to test it fair enough) but they have had the van for a week and I could write a book on the excuses they have used to try to get me to pay for the repairs / find excuses why they shouldn't do it..
If wants to know you the full BS that I've had to listen too let me know..it's not been a pleasant experience as a new VW customer

Pleasant season approaches, it will be all worthwhile shortly!
I can certainly recommend my local VW independent near Cannock, bizarrely close to @CRS Performance
