T6.1 new order delays

I've just had a call this morning, 10am on Thursday 10th March from my dealer (JCB Ashford). They have confirmed price increases will be effective from the end of this month. to confirm, my APR and dealer deposit contribution remain the same, as does the discount. The Net price, however, does not. I bought a Highline Kombi with 10+ extras and my net price is increasing overall £2,200 + VAT. This is EVERY price increase since I ordered (30th June 2021) plus any more to come, until it arrives.

I was given the option to walk away, but I chose to remain.
Just had the same call from the same dealer :(. They reckoned the net increase for me currently stands at "...between £1,200 and £1,300, plus VAT...", and that "...there's a high probability of another price increase next month" (percentage unknown).

I was offered the option to walk away, but having recently dropped a £10k deposit for a camper conversion, that wasn't an offer I could contemplate. (I might even take this opportunity to add an extra I overlooked at order).

The guy was very apologetic (especially when he realised I'd been waiting since mid-May), but ultimately there's nothing he can do to influence the situation, so I wasn't going to have a go at him. I am, however, minded to write to Professor Dr Carsten Intra (CEO, VW Commercial) and inform him of the low regard prospective customers have for his organisation (something along the lines of "good product; shit customer service; non-existent communications skills").

I honestly don’t think they care as they have people queuing up to buy them anyway. Like most of us on here it’s the most expensive vehicle I have ever bought and the customer experience is the worst I’ve ever received.

I’ve not yet received such a call but i am expecting it going by the talk on here, I will be bailing out as soon as they give me that option. I will be keeping my current custom sport until all this crazy situation ends, christ knows when that will be. Its not all doom and gloom, tomorrow I will be collecting a Amarok adventura on a 20 plate:cool: so I am still going to pop my VW cherry, just not in a sportline. I do not have any grief with the dealers, in fact total sympathy as it’s all totally out of their hands:rolleyes:

I'm afraid I can't disagree with anything you've said. It's a piss-poor state of affairs. I guess I'm just wanting to vent my spleen at someone who is, ultimately, responsible.

I had ordered my van SWB highline Kombi august 2020, got delivery Oct 21, unfortunately it was involved in accident Jan total loss write off, dealer had a few ordered at same time as my original order Aug 21, and has offered me one of those, guess what, they are still waiting , good job I like walking , could be 3 months, could be 6 months, could turn up next week ,

Hi All,

this thread has filled me with dread , I just placed a deposit on a new campervan and was told they expected delivery of the van in April/May.

Is that just pure fantasy and I can expect a wait of more than a year?

Think I would rather get my deposit back and wait for things to get back to some sort of normality, even if that meant waiting another year or two.

If it's one that's been built and it's on its way, it might be ok. I'd ask what status it is. Might be a cancelled order.

Cheers Jay, will do. Received an email from Camperking (not who I have went with) basically advising me I'd need to wait 18 months now for a new van and here's a link to their 2021 vans, whose prices looked to have went up already.

That email made me think I've no chance of a April/May delivery.

Received a letter on Saturday morning from VW Commercial UK.
It is suggesting the semiconductor issue will begin to improve during second half of 2022 but that the impact of the Ukraine situation is currently difficult to predict. In the meantime they say it is likely to be some time before my van centre is able to give me any information. I ordered June last year with a predicted delivery of December and have had various confirmed build weeks that have come and gone.

I feel really sorry for you guys waiting. It must be terrible.

I might be able to find a converter who has some time to work on my van now.

Did they say specify which year?

As @Jay586 says, for any chance of April/May 2022 delivery, it would have to be a cancelled order. If not, I reckon you'd be struggling for April/May 2023 delivery.

This whole build schedule mess is going to take years to fully unwind - if it ever does - so you'll probably end up being disappointed if you delay your order a year or so in the hope/expectation of a sensible delivery timescale.

That seems a tad optimistic, even for what was known back then. I ordered May last year and right from the outset I was given an estimated delivery date of March (that's now been shoved back to May/June, without ever having seen a build date - but that's a different story).

My best guess of a delivery 'date' for an order placed now would 18 months hence. However if you can afford to leave the deposit where it is I would think whatever happens the van that is delivered eventually will sell for at least what you pay for it and maybe at an inflated price. i.e. all you can loose is any interest/use that would benefit you on the deposit.

Do you think I should bite the bullet and just try for a 2021 plate? Pains me to spend this amount of money and not get a 2022 plate but at best I'll probably get my new 2022 this time next year just as the 2023 vans are rolling out.

Am i hearing right that there is T7 coming out soon?

It would be good to work out roughly how many people here are waiting for new vans and when everyone ordered to see if we can work out any pattern with regards to vans being delivered

Stick with the van you've placed a deposit on would be my advice. You were obviously happy with it when you handed over your cash and, even if they meant April/May 2023 delivery, that's still probably your quickest route to a new van.

I wouldn't get too hung-up about what plate the van will be on. Yes, there's the kudos of having the latest plate, but it won't make a huge difference to its value after you've had it a few years. Base spec, factory extras, type/quality of conversion, service history, mileage and general condition will all have a significantly greater impact on value.

Yeah - AFAIK it's been available to order since January, with first deliveries expected any time now. The T7, though, is an MPV/multivan - i.e. a replacement for the Velle, I believe the Cali, PV and kombi will continue to be based on the T6.1 (happy to be corrected if I've got that wrong).
