T6.1 new order delays

Well, after a wait of 2 years, 1 month and 8 days, our Hillside Birchover camper is finally a reality so I’ll be signing off from this thread and joining Team Pure Grey. In the words of Peter Gabriel “Don’t give up…” - your van will be along sometime soon peeps. And now for some adventures...

Getting some interest on my 71 plate Sportline black edition panel van. Currently sitting at 44,000 miles and still loving it but not the fuel costs. what’s a reasonable offer?

The time has come to wave goodbye to this group. Picked up the new motor today after 9 months 1 week of waiting (pretty fast considering!)

Good luck to all those still in the waiting room, it is worth the wait!

See you all on the other side to discuss awnings, alloys, leds and other stick on plastic bits I never knew I needed (until I read this forum).

Hi
Been a T6 member for a few years but never posted before, great site full of useful info.
I sort of own a new T6.1, I say sort of as it hasn't arrived yet, here stands the tale. I ordered it a year ago from a well known and well respected VW camper converter, expecting to take delivery of it Easter this year. Unfortunately its a 4 Motion and as everyone on this site knows there have been probelms and delays at the factory. Currently I have status report build date of 'WK27 Estimated' We're nearly in WK33 and the official report sheet appears to be stuck on 'Week 27 Estimate' Neither the Converter, their VW vehicle supplier, or VW Head Office in Milton Keynes seem to know whats going on. I realise that the factory is just back from their 3 week shut down but VW should surley be getting back up to speed now with sorting out these build dates. I think all of the official converters are very frustrated with the situation, anyone else with 4 motions on order getting the run around?

Robdog, has your dealer advised you of the present status of your order? That may give you a clue as to whether an actual production date is imminent. My van order was showing at Status ‘010’ (order correct and accepted by the system but no estimated build date forecast) for 1 year and 11 months. After almost giving up, it quickly moved to Status ‘020’ (a production date is scheduled and components are ordered) and went down the line in Week 13 this year and finally appeared in the UK six weeks later.

The lesson I, and many other members of this forum, have learned is that VAG brands have a very primitive grasp of the concept of customer service and the imperative to communicate with their customers. It seems they prefer instead to treat individual customers (and dealership teams it seems) with utter contempt because they see them as a huge inconvenience in the pursuit of their corporate objectives.

Thanks for the reply, by the looks of it I think you have had a similar journey, with the same VW Converter, mines the same colour as yours only its a SWB 4 motion. I've had one before from them and I was very happy with their service. Mine I believe is still at status '10' but week 27 qued up with 5 other orders all of them 4 motion.
Unfortunately and possibly understanably the converters wont provide me with the actual 8 digit ref no for the vehicle so i cant check its status independantly. I probably being generous by putting the current fug in information down to the VW factory holiday and the consequences of catching up.

Did you decide on your roof colour, I'm thinking of sticking with the grey?

PS I looked at the various solar options but I think I'm going to go the portable Jackery way not sure which model yet, I've asked if they can supply a feed to plug the Jackery solar panel into the leisure battery.

I know the converter has experienced a lot of delays with their orders for 4Motion vans in particular. It seems that as the Hannover production plant has been turned over to EVs, the capacity for T6.1 Transporter production has been drastically reduced, with 4Motion builds being disproportionately affected. It also appears that further delays are caused because many of these are high-spec vans with lots of options checked, meaning many more control units and electronic systems are required. The global shortage of semi-conductors still continues and no doubt Volkswagen is having to juggle demand against component availability. I can fully understand why the converter wouldn’t tell you the order reference number. I just called them every month for updates.

Regarding roof colour, I was given two options, namely black or body colour (Pure Grey in my case). I also opted to have two C-profile tracks fitted into the channels along either side of the SCA roof in order to make it easy to mount a rigid PV panel in the future. In hindsight, I really should have asked the converter to have pre-wired the van to allow retro-fitting of things like reversing camera, witness cameras, solar panels, etc. I’ve discovered it’s a major strip down to subsequently add wiring runs, particularly from front to rear.

My order for a LWB 4Motion DSG 204PS panel van was placed with VW on 18th June 2021. It eventually turned up in the UK on 23rd May this year so 1 year, 11 months and 6 days in total. I’m fairly sure others have waited longer though.
same ere mid june 2021 loaded 204 dsg kombi.
