T6.1 new order delays

Thanks Peter. Its a bit early for me to waste an actual persons time, as my only order went in less than 2 weeks ago! I was just inquisitive to know what the status would be at this early stage!
Sadly, I think you will find the wrong kind of surprises. It seems to take the factory a minimum of 2 weeks and often more just to accept the order. Even when they do, they wont normally assign a provisional build week this early. But I do admire your optimism!

Sadly the last 6 months experience has taught me to be very cautious about anything VW factory/build related.

Just had the dreaded call from VW Dealer T32 Kombi ordered early December for delivery in April now been put back to October/November at earliest.
Same as me. I ordered November and got October earliest. I have expected delivery March on my order form.

Dealer told me part of delay was due to the UK allocation of VW production being fully used up. He said that the French allocation has not been fully utilised and it may be that France could release some capacity for the UK. I won’t be holding my breath for the French to come to our aid!

Are more people buying Transporters in the UK than ever before? Even in the middle of a Pandemic, with many people on furlow...

OR

Have VW not bothered it increase production after lowering it before christmas due to Covid and BREXIT??

Looks like we have the short straw here.

Surely, if France have spare order allocations, it would make good business sense for VW to allocate some extra to the UK where demand is high to maintain sales?

Oh yes Macron will definitely oblige

I had the same issues from VW in 2008 when California's first appeared with long waiting lists.............it corrected itself very quickly allbeit it wasn't in the middle of this maelstrom......, I expect as lockdowns globally start to lift the parts supply will ease accordingly, Taiwan is particularly struggling with chips........................as bad as it is nothing can be done to move an immovable object like VW...you get it when you get it...........unfortunately

They definitely made an assumption that UK demand would drop as a consequence of Brexit. Had that from 2 dealers, and neither have seen any indication that has been revised so far, which is why we are already seeing people being told not to expect delivery until Oct or Nov.

Logic and commercial sense alone would suggest that you optimise factory capacity to meet orders already on the books.

How is it that an order with a dealer in October can be already built and have March delivery confirmed. And the same spec van at the same dealer in orders in November have a forecast delivery of October earliest.

What happened for November buyers which means they have an additional 6 month delay?

Thanks Woodman. He’s usually a pretty good source of info on what’s going on in the factory.

Although this time, what he’s saying (I.e. around August delivery on a new Cali order placed now) doesn't seem to square with other members experiences of what they are being told on estimated deliveries of Oct and Nov for basic PV’s which don’t need the extra factory fit time for a Cali that Chris is talking about.

Still seems very muddled, so guess we have little choice and just need to see how things unfold for each order.

When I spoke to my dealer last week, he said his manager was in a meeting with one of the directors putting forward a short list of orders. He said the allocation is being limited per dealerships. He insured my order was on that list but I guess this might not be the case for others.

So depending on how many orders your dealership could be the deciding factor not when you placed your order. I agree it should go by dates but this could mean some dealerships will miss out and others massively gain.

Finally!!!!!

VW have now confirmed my build week for next week (week 9) Still mystified why some people are getting build dates confirmed 2-3 weeks (or more) ahead of actual build week, but in my case they have only been able to do it 2 days before the build week starts, but that just seems to be part of the magical mystery journey of buying a new VW van at present. Anyway, finally I have light at the end of the tunnel, and can relax a bit. Must confess I was getting nervous it hadn’t been confirmed and was expecting it to be bounced to a later date. So very pleased that it hasn’t been!

Also asked about delivery times to van centre at present, and this is the fairly detailed explanation they gave me:

Build takes 1-2 weeks
Transit from factory to Elden port 2-3 days
Held at Emden awaiting export 7-10 days
Shipping 2-3 days
Held in UK port 7-10 days
Delivery to van centre 1-2 days
PDI 1-2 days

So sharing to assist everyone understanding of what takes how long. Roughly about 4 weeks once built. Which aligns with what dealer has told me recently and seems to be what others are experiencing.

Better go and tidy up the car now and think about selling it.

Some prospective owners should be asking how the water still comes past the windows after a 1-2 day pre-delivery inspection.

You will be like a pig in sh1t this weekend. I was told mine was on last l look leg of assembly this week so I might see it the end of March!!!

When I got my van I had to get an order in place by X time, if my order wasn't in by that point then there was a 7% price increase.

I thought the salesman was just being pushy, but I did my own research and it was true so I got my order in just before the price rise came into force.

If you've signed paperwork and paid a deposit before the increase then it shouldn't be your problem.

thanks

I was told this week I’ve gone back to week 14 from 11 I blood regret ordering the Flux Capacitor now

I wanted to add the LED lights to my order, but It looked like it would tip me out of the provisional slot I had, so decided not to. However, if I’d realised that the flux capacitor was an option, I’d have definitely added both and weathered the extra wait!!!!

Although I’m not sure how my sanity would have held against the grief I’d have got from the wife - more about the cost of the LED lights than the addition of a flux capacitor!!!
