T6.1 new order delays

I got the dreaded email from my dealership on Saturday morning to say my van ( ordered in Jan 21) is not expected until at least Oct 21! I'm not happy to say the least. Now there is nothing wrong with my current T6, and I'm happy to drive it until Oct, and I don't think it will lose a great deal in value, but, the end of Sept is my year end and it complicates things massively. I have nowhere else to go though. Merc don't do a big enough Vito with a tonne payload, and the rest of the crew vans out there are..........pants.

I'm at a loss really, extremely disappointed with VW, and free car mats or a coffee mug aren't going to do it for me.

There are enough angry customers on here to make their feelings felt to VW UK, to maybe get VW UK to contact Germany and get them to pull their finger out. There is a strong market in the UK for Transporters ( probably the strongest) but this could easily slip away, affecting not only VW but our own re-sale values.

I think your T6 might gain value this year but that doesn’t help with your tax bill if the new van isn’t in the tax year that you need it to be.

That really is a rough deal.

The Cali’s seem to have been prioritised recently and dealers have been given a prioritisation list, which allegedly is in order of order date, and gives a production month. That seems partly down to many orders having been delayed, in part due to emissions and then consequently weight issues as a result of extra emissions kit. But I also wondered if they are prioritising Cali’s due to price and better profit margins, given that demand for them has been strong.

The whole allocation system seems flawed to me though, and completely understand your frustration. Doesn’t make any sense that some dealers have allocation, and others don’t. Similarly doesn’t make sense that the Factory isn’t making use of the under utilised French factory allocation to cope with the strong UK demand.

Reading back on this forum and other places, it does seem that the factory does seem to get itself in a pickle every year or so, but then they seem to sort it out within a month or two. That of course was pre Covid, so very different challenges now, but hopefully they’ll iron out the kinks and some of these ridiculous quoted lead times will start to improve over the next month or two.

Fingers crossed for you @Danny1964Boy. But might be worth a ring around to a few dealers to see if any have any stock, or stock orders nearing build date like mine was. Pain in the arse to do, but you may just get a pleasant surprise, and the price might not be a lot different. Got to be worth a few calls given the lead time you’re currently being quoted.

if you contact VW UK they will identify for you that there is no build week or plan for your build and talk to your dealer. So the situation is actually worse than you think. We are all being given what we are reading as October but it’s EARLIEST that’s the key word. I think it’s going to be 2022 delivery for a significant many in the “October earliest” communication.
Welcome to the VW Dealership Lottery. I say lottery as this is going to cost me more than £10k this summer additional expenses. If I had gone to a dealer that had a real allocation I might be picking it up today as expected on my order form.

Regarding the tax year thing. As long as your invoice from the dealer is dated this year I believe you will be OK. Do check with an accountant but I think I'm correct in saying that it can be offset against the year of invoice.

Im in similar situation, I spoke to my accountant about paying for a van before April and collecting sometime thereafter. They only problem he said was that the invoice for the van would have to include a registration number which wouldn’t be able to be done so far in advance

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you can work around this. And I guess it only truly matters if hmrc ask.

It's Built :)

Strange how finding that your van has finally been built almost 2 months after its promised delivery date feels like I'm a luck one.

Well spec'd Kombi 150 4M was ordered in late Sep, original build was week 15 unconfirmed, it then got moved to Week 9 still unconfirmed & I just heard form my dealer that it's on its way to the coast. Hoping to get it early April, so that will be just over 6 months in total.
I feel for you guys stuck in the no news waiting room; the relief on stepping out of there is immense!

Another one built earlier than it’s build 9 slot week. It’ll probably be on the same boat over as mine then.

Lets hope that bodes well for others and that the factory starts to push more through earlier than expected, and more importantly, starts to put build slots to those that currently don’t have one at all.

Used the VWCV chat today to see if any update on van build. Ordered 13 August 2020. As of today still an unconfirmed build week 22. Week commencing 31st May. So if I’m very lucky delivery some 11 months from order. At least the online chat proved to be factual, you do need your order reference if you are going to use it.

I think mine was going to Ebden same time as yours Ozi. Immingham is the the destination I believe.

Scruffy, I feel for you mate and all the others who are patiently waiting for their van to materialise but feel helpless in the meantime. You mention in your post about a Merc...hate to say it and on this Forum too but have you thought about a SWB low roof Sprinter? I downsized a few years back form a Crafter ,which was far too big, to a Sprinter this size and it has been the best van to date I've had and must be only marginally bigger than a T6. I will probably downsize further, in time, to a T6.

I’m in for the same 11 to 12 months at least at the moment but trying to find an alternative way through this.

We go from no news for ages, to a flurry of vans being built in a few days. Must be UK build week at the factory!

New member but longtime lurker. I have a T6 Kombi 2016 Highline and due to the incoming ULEZ expansion need to upgrade to a Euro 6 vehicle as I will be living inside the zone from Oct 21st.
Order placed in the last week for a new Kombi same spec and colour. I wasn't planning to order until later in the year as didn't expect it be longer than 3 months.

No definite information back yet but for what its worth the dealer was expecting late August or early September. I must admit it doesn't massively matter to me I just don't want to be paying the charge everyday and till then will avoid central london if possible.
I guess time will tell if the process speeds up or I'm sat sulking in October with no vehicle to drive.

I have noticed on vw van configuration that the 199 is not available and showing 204 so that may be a reason for delays

I saw yesterday they have updated the brochure and price list for the Caravelle, now dated from the 1st March and showing the 204ps engine. The engine change has been in the pipeline for some time and hopefully they are all ready to go with the new one now, and the 22ltr Adblue tank as it states in the specification, that will take some filling.
