Just completed fitting the reversing camera to my t6.1 , thanks to everyone for the advise and help

parts i used where

1) Camera Input Cable For VW MIB2 RCD330 RCD360 Composite Discovery Media RCA MQS
£5.95

2) 10m RCA Camera Cable Reverse Trigger Red Wire Reversing Phono Video Meters SPDIF
£3.37

3) GreenYi Golden Lens 1920x1080P Car Rear View Camera 170° Full HD Night Vision Reverse AHD Fisheye Vehicle Parking Camera

note make sure you get the CVBS -AHD70P version , cut the green wire so the camera runs in CVBS format (NTSC)

4) Carista EVO Bluetooth Scanner - just because its easier than getting the computer out to run threw odis
£50 + £9.95 for 1 month subscription

Note : i had to fit a rectivifer, which i used to power the camera from the reverse power on the rear tail light
also i use a good length of wire for live and earth running from the rear light and jack area up and around threw tailgate to power the camera

Someone needs to write up a how to guide on this one going threw all the steps, its a easy job when you have all the right bits and a very good upgrade to any t6.1

i just need some help here

will any universal reverse camera work on the t6.1 as long as the van is coded to have the reverse camera turned on

is it just a matter of sending the video wires to the right connecters pins on the back of the radio connecter

is it then ok just to power on the camera from a feed from the reverse light in the back
I went to Dav-Tec for a rev camera. The first one failed after a couple of months. Chris demonstraited first class customer service and replaced the failed camera no quible. That camera is still functioning as new 2yrs on. I have no hesitation in recommending Dav-Tec.

I had, what I believe to be, an OEM reverse camera fitted by my converter to my 23 T6.1 when new; 19 months ago.
It’s now stopped working and I’m getting a message on the head unit (the one without Sat nav) saying that the camera is unavailable when I engage reverse. From searching the forum it looks to be a pretty simple dumb camera +12V, GND, reverse signal and the video feed. I don’t believe it has any CANbus signals. I’m going to start fault finding to see what’s up, but I’m intrigued as to how the head unit is determining that the camera isn’t working and coming up with the message? How does it monitor it?

I think its just looking for a video input signal at the headunit ?

Thanks @Pauly , makes sense. I wondered if it monitored the 12V supply, but then the supply would have to come from the head unit.
I haven’t taken the tailgate trim off yet but I’m assuming that there will be connections near to the camera in the tailgate that I can start my fault finding from?

If its a genuine VAG camera it will have a 3 pin power plug
Red - permanent 12v positive
Yellow - switched (reverse) 12v positive
Black - negative

@Pauly this is my wiring and connector. Has VW logo on, so genuine VAG.
Disconnected camera and checked connector on van loom side.
Brown wire is negative, rather than black.
Yellow wire is getting 12V when reverse is engaged,
There is no 12V on the red wire, but checked all fuses in fuse box to side of drivers wheel and all ok.
Am getting a resistance of 69ohms between the Red and Brown which seems odd.
I’m assuming the camera loom is damaged.
Anything else I should or could check?IMG_1020.jpeg

Its hard to know where they will have connected the red wire ?
Im not even 100% sure it needs the red feed, think it just keeps the camera powered and ready to display

Yep, annoyingly, no idea where the red wire goes once it disappears from the tailgate.
I’ll knock something up to temporarily power the camera separately from the loom via the red / yellow wires on the camera itself and see if I can get it to kick into life.

Ok, I’ve got a workaround that’s got my camera operational again.
Played with the OEM camera out of the van.
Essentially it definitely requires 12V on the red wire.
As soon as it receives a 12V “reverse” signal on the yellow wire the camera sends its video and continues to do so until the 12V is removed and then it continues to send video for around a further 10 seconds.
The current draw of the camera when sending video is around 290mA.
As my Red wire in the van loom isn’t providing any voltage, i’ve just joined the red and yellow wires of the camera together and then let the yellow “reverse” signal feed both.
I don’t know what the drive power of the “reverse” signal is and I know it’s not the right way, but it will do for now as I’m loathed to pay for another camera to be installed after such a short time.

Hi boys and girls,

Apologies if this has already been covered previously, I’ve had a quick search but there are quite a few threads covering reverse cameras.
Hope someone can help though… has anyone retrofitted a reverse camera to a 2024 t6.1 with the 8inch nav screen?

Need to find out if it can be done, whats needed and where I can get it from…

Thanks in advance…

Yes the connections is all at the module behind the glovebox, centre console

Excellent, thanks for the reply.
With regards to coding using VCDS, I plugged in yesterday and could see no option in the infotainment long coding helper to activate camera like i’d done previously… is it an adaption that needs to be activated or am I doing something incorrectly?
The tick box is still present in the steering coding helper.

Thanks again in advance.
