T6 Transporter TDI250 (110PS) -> TDI340 (150PS) retrofit/conversion

Hi All,

Looking to pick up a second hand T6 Transporter to convert into a camper while also towing, so will be pushing the GVM limits of the van.

There's a really nice TDI250 near me I'm interested in, but I'm worried that it really won't have the power to do what I need it to and ill regret not getting a higher spec engine... so I'd like to research what the physical part differences are between the TDI250 / TDI340.

From googling for parts, all T6 transporters use the same Delphi 28565339 Diesel Injector, but turbo changes a few times through the years.

I believe for 2015/2016 the TDI250 (85kW) and TDI340 (110kW) both use a 830323-5006S, the TDI400 (132kW) uses 10009930098, and the TDI450 (150kW) has a 16359880018 bi-turbo.

So Turbos if are the same, Injectors are the same, is it just a matter of doing a reprogram/tune to go from a TDI250 to TDI340? Tried searching for tuning houses and got mixed results which I don't really trust. Anybody able to help?

Apart from egr pipe I don't know of any issues with the 204 engine. Is the 204 that essentially the same as the 199 engine?

2015/16 was a transition year from EU5 certified engines to EU6 thus need to verify actual engine codes (e,g, EU5: CAAA, CAAB, CAAC, CFCA vs. EU6: CXGB, CXHA, CXFA, CXEB).

Looks like an admin edited the title for me; appreciate the consideration but im fairly certain the PS designations added are wrong - TDI250 here are 102PS and TDI340 are 140PS...? and it looks like it is no longer possible for me to edit it. Bummer.

Thanks for that link mmi, looks like I'll need to do more digging on the specific model to get an engine code and in turn part commonality.

Edit: OK, now I know the designations used in this forum (e.g. 150PS instead of TDI340 for T6.1) I've found tons of other threads on this subject. I was surprised that I couldn't find other people asking this same question; turns out I was just asking it wrong.

I have read elsewhere that for at some year models they put variable geometry (movable vane) turbos in the mid spec and fixed in the lower.

Apologies @Agouti i must have read kW as PS - changed now.

For clarity,

TDI250 - 250Nm torque, 81kW / 108BHP / 110PS
TDI340 - 340Nm torque, 110kW / 147BHP / 150PS

Hopefully not just adding more confusion - about TDI340 engines

EU5-engines have the following identifiers & spec - aka 140PS.


Respectively EU6-engines (with AdBlue) were specced as below, aka 150PS.
