T6 Transporter Vanilla - CaroleNash Insured Last Year - this year they have declined

Your original insurer is on the hook for all your additional costs arising from their incorrect assertion that you misrepresented your van. So, if you can afford the short term pain of increased insurance costs, there shouldn't be a problem long term - it will just take time for it all to be worked out.

If your original insurer remains intransigent, I would deffo go to the Ombudsman.
Im going to the Ombudsman no matter what...

What a complete nightmare! I feel your pain trying to sort this mess out. Insurance companies are charlatans.

Had my van insured with AF from 1 year old. Once the van had its first MOT my renewal shot up .massively. When I question it they said my declared milage was 5k pa but I had done 15k. This was the vans total milage not per year but they just check the MOT info. Idiots.

Well its been a while but i can now write an update on this...

Thanks to posting this thread on the forum i would never have got this resolved, I felt like everything was against me, the insurance companies.. and didnt really have much hope..

This thread and the helpful info people posted at least gave me hope that there was a path to getting it sorted.

Out of the blue someone messaged me through the forums saying they think they could help me and to give me a ring...

I was lost and had nowhere else to go so i phoned the number.. A very kind gentlemen answered called Rod from the HistroicVW and VWBooks club.

Rod explained that he can prob help by getting the original build report of the Van, and asked me to send some pictures of the current van.

I gave Rod the ViN and he rushed off to get the Build Report from a local Dealer.. i could not believe that someone would reach out and offer to help in such a away, all becuase of this forum.

Rod came back and explained the good news and Bad, good the Van is the model/spec that i had purchased and had not been written off rebuilt etc ( pheeww ) , he then explained that the Van had originally been delivered to Northern Ireland, and this is probably when the issues began.

Once the Van was sold back to the UK, they would have had to transfer the info from the NI DVLA to the UK DVLA and Rod suggested this is probably when the errors took place.

He also explained that he has been involved with the DVLA for many years, his clubs had been asked to help the DVLA through digitization to inspect VWs and provide an inspection report of the vehicle which the DVLA would then use to facilitate a change in the Detail s on the V5, he was coming down my way on the weekend, would I like to meet so he could inspect the vehicle and create a report..... Well Yes Please !!

And so i met Rob at a Services on the M5 on a sunny afternoon , what a great guy to meet when i was at an all time low point, he really gave me faith in humanity and also a route to solve this nightmare.

Forward on a good 6 weeks, today i finally got the update V5 from the DVLA , i have attached the updated details, i am now a Van/Side Windows owner and not a MINIBUS driver....

Now the next steps is the Financial Ombudsman and getting the Black Mark from my insurance record.

This would not have been possible without Rod reaching out to help a stranger, what a guy, and this is all because of posting on this forum, what a great community .

So thank you, i will update on the Insurnace Ombudsman when i get to the end of that .

I know Rod was off on holidays for a few weeks and then was going to be starting some pretty serious treatment, if you could all send him some good vibes and positive energy i know it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Presumably @rod_vw

Top bloke!

So glad you have it (almost) sorted!

Big up to Rod! Top fella and what places like this are all about. Good luck with the Ombudsman that shouldnt be too difficult a case to win and am surprised CN are even making oyu go there.

I thank you all for your kind words.

Through the Historic Volkswagen Club which is now fifty years old and of which I am the founder member I have learned to help any Volkswagen owner that I possibly can.

I have no qualms in telling you that the treatment referred to is radiotherapy for prostate cancer, it is only through others talking about this illness that I had a PSA test so am eternally grateful to those gentlemen.

PS the holiday in France in the MAN TGE was great and will be followed by another asap.
