Tailgate no longer opening from outside

Another Tailgate playing up! 2010 T5.1

In fact mine seems dead, not getting any latching or un-latching noise, and is locked solid.
The outside handle/switch isn’t doing anything.
Thankfully still able to open manually from the inside.
Planning on taking the rear panel off tomorrow and testing all the wires to the lock/switch.

Not sure if it’s a coincidence but this issue coincides with a fault with my tail lights and side door.
-tail lights are coming on with the ignition, I’m working though this, but suspect fault in the BCM
-side door is working but I am getting the door open light on the dash when it’s closed, the light goes out when the doors open. It’s like the latch it wired in reverse, but still locks as it should.
This has been like this for months and started when the BCM was replaced to a 089

Any advice or help with any of these issues would be much appreciated.
Hmm .. well eliminate the micro switch in the outside handle first I guess ..

I have the same issue as thread title. T6 Shuttle (2016) tailgate latch operates fine from the inside but outside handle not working.
Seems from reply below from @Pauly , replacing the handle button / switch should do it as cabling must be good. Any idea on part number or where to source?
Thanks in advance!
Inside and outside connect to the same pair of wires so you know the cabling is good, can only be the button/switch in the handle

Had mine done under warranty so never found out part number but I believe they replaced the switch and handle so it may have to be both I’m not sure ( if they did they did a good paint job )

Check everything including top brake light, external tailgate handle release and all internals. I took mine back to VW while still under warranty and they wanted to charge me nearly £400 to replace all parts which I declined. After investigating the problem myself with a water hose, it was the seal around the external tailgate handle that was leaking and causing the problem. £35 for a new handle, problem solved.
Hi @JetSetWilly
Please can you tell me why the dealership wanted to charge you if still in warranty?
The faulty handle is not 3 years old.
When you purchased the new handle, does it come with the switch fitted?
