Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have a set of 16” steels, thinking about banding them. Before I do, can I fit an all terrain tyre or at least something beefy in the wheel arch with it being dropped 50mm? To me it looks like there is plenty of room but just wanted to see if anyone had done the same? Cheers

@Turbotricky try the website willtheyfit.com to compare your all terrain tyre idea, with what you’re running now. If you have no clearance issues at the minute, you’ll be fine to go the same size or a bit bigger depending on how much clearance you have?

Banded 16s on huge knobbly rubber look really cool, plus they are the cheapest wheel to buy already banded. Have a look at the price of a finished banded 16" set of new wheels, and compare that to having yours shipped to a bander, stripped, banded, powder coated and shipped back to you. You might find it cheaper to buy a set already done, but it's an awesome look, as is banded 17" steels on big tyres. Yes, 17s will cost a fraction more, but bare in mind that the resale of 17s are far easier than 16s, just an other option.

I’ve got some RR steels coming back to me after a colour change and soon to be up for sale.. if anyone wants them let me know and you can even pick your colour before they come back...

Our resident steel expert @Tourershine saw them in the flesh at our local tyre place when the winters were being fitted. He thought they were really good. I’m really please with them for the price - quality is equal to some I paid twice as much for. When I took mine and collected them, there was a constant stream of people dropping off / collecting wheels and a 2 week lead time which I think speaks volumes.

If you go anytime soon the roads around them are in turmoil due to the HS2 station being built and your satnav will have a paddy!

Thanks for the info Ian. Especially about the traffic situation.

They look great value for money, that's me sold.

Just a shame it's not a set of banded steels I'm taking up there:confused:
