Whilst I'm replying to one question, it would be rude not to post the latest picture for Team BB.

This is actually on the set of the latest series of Peaky Blinders in Manchester. My daughter lives a few minutes away from this place and walking around this area it's absolutely stunning seeing the mix of old and new. I'm certainly not a city guy, but I see the appeal my daughter has with this city and it's people, she will probably live there most of her life now.

Tinted? No officer it's the way the light sits against Volkswagen glass

I think they are 15% They aren't limo tint and you can see out of them perfectly, but they are obviously not legal as has been pointed out by a friendly Police persons.
Saying that, they've been a god send in this heat and stop you getting one tanned arm.

15% light transmission. That’s pretty dark.
Ps I’m pretty sure I know where that pic was taken. But it’s been a while since I was around that area.

It's dark yes, but only looking in. Looking out it just has a slight tint. The picture makes it look darker than it actually is, but the sliding doors are full limo and they are impossible to see into, but again, not that dark looking out.

Castlefield is nice, when it's sunny. Not so much when it's wet and miserable!
The city had improved a lot over the last few years. Its too fancy for the likes of my now! Haha

I know this is the place for banded steels, but thought I'd ask in here anyway.

I've just purchased some amarok steels (standard widths, yes I know boooo) and wondered what size tyres you lot would recommend for them? And any particular brands?

I'm currently standard height but will be looking at fitting coilovers soon and hoping for around 100mm drop. Will this greatly affect tyre choice?

235/50/18 is the go to size for standard (7.5”) Amarok’s as far as I am aware.

I personally wouldn’t buy anything less than a Goodyear Eagle F1 or a Michelin Cross Climate for example, but it’s down to personal choice…. do you want an all season tyre or a premium summer tyre?

Manchester is a weird place, when I was working up there you'd find strange men standing in Costco car park all looking at each others vans in the pitch black dark. Very weird

Brilliant thanks for that!

I'm wanting a good quality tyre, maybe a summer one, but don't want to go too far as don't want to limit capability when we get to campsites if it's soggy!

Then a Cross Climate or my favourite Goodyear Vector 4s will suit you perfect.
Great all rounders that are extremely capable in the winter, but I found the Cross Climates a little twitchy on mine when accelerating hard, where are the Vectors weren't, but bare in mind that mine is a mapped 204 DGS with a heavy right foot. In other words, they are both fantastic tyres in the right situations.

Thanks a lot for that! I'll take a look at both of those! Mines only a stock 150 van so won't have the same uptake as yours so shouldn't be as twitchy on the Cross Climates. I'll probably go with what tread pattern I like best! Haha

I’m running cross climates and have found them to be excellent. Highly recommended. It was a close one between these or the vectors.. actually just boiled down to what I could get the quickest.

Not what this thread was started for, because these aren't banded, but they are still steels.

The guys at Navis wheels have asked if I'd run their new concept steels in the real world as final testing to see how they are on the higher end of the Transporter weights and being a T32 and a work vehicle that's always loaded, and the fact I do the miles, made mine the perfect test vehicle before these get signed off and production commences.

The first picture is what they call the 'Schmoov' and it's available in 19 and 20" 8.5 all round or the option to go staggered 10" rears. I'm running the staggered 19s

The second picture is basically an Amarok steel style, but also available in the same 19 and 20" with the same width options, that they call the Holey.

The wheels I'm running are the concept versions and they have a couple of very minor tweaks to make to the Schmoov wheel, but that's only the centre bore being a little snug and the fact VW caps don't fit perfectly on these wheels yet, but these wheels do have the option of an old school domed metal cap the same as the old air-cooled VW stuff.

Personally I really like the Holey style in 19" staggered and the quality is exceptional, but the Schmoov style are actually growing on me and look much better in real life. Both sets will be on my van at this weekends Forum meet, Schmoov one side, Holey the other.

These will retail around £1000 a set and they are meant to be landing in the UK late August.
Oh and for the legal purists among us, they are load rated high enough to use on a VW Crafter and they are direct VW fitment, so no more plastic spigots.

Anyone wondering why I'm running these as tests, it's simply because Navis is part of Transporter HQ, which is no secret, and I often do long term testing on products these guys develop, plus what steel fan would say no to running a set of free wheels with new tyres, thus protecting my own banded 19s whilst they take a break for a short while.
