TV Aerial for the van.

Sorry chum but 9 inch is not what I am looking for I will go for the one mentioned the 22" one ... thanks anyway

Just got the Necvox ANT-536 aerial, but when I tried to fit it to the Cello 16” tv in our new campervan there is not enough room to connect it to the tv aerial socket with the adaptor fitted, due to the shape of the back of the tv - there is a vented moulding right below in the way. Don’t all aerials use a similar adaptor? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Depends what you mean by good Paul! :)
A good size? good gain? good directional selectivity? good F/B ratio? good value? Good returns policy? :D
Its an unfortunate fact that any TV aerial small enough to be convenient in a van is going to be relatively poor when
compared to the yagi on your house roof :)
The 'Status' range are not bad for a permanent installation, but most are omnidirectional which is convenient but not optimal.
They do cased directional ones too but they're quite a bit bigger and need to rotate.
If you're prepared to use a pole, a small yagi (say 5 ele upwards) should perform reasonably well. Pretty much all 'indoor' aerials are poor.
The August DTA245 is probably as good as a small indoor aerial gets, its amplified (USB powered) and has a magnetic base, so
unless its raining, you can stick it on the roof where at least it has a decent ground-plane :)
Most tellys now have a usb port which you can use to power it.
Most campsites are out in the sticks so the signal is often poor, so have some DVDs ripped to a memory stick for backup!
Cheers
Phil
@Phil_G Just found your post and the info TV aerials. I am looking a VFM and a good returns policy in case it doesn't work - so Argos and John Lewis are top of my list!!! We are going to give it a try and see how we get on! Only ever going to be used with a hook up. Just checked your recommended AUGUST DTA245 and LOOKS GOOD! Appreicate we have moved on and wondered if you still would recommend this one? Paul. ps is that you on the bike - just sold mine :-(

Hi yes I still have the DTA245, not tried a Necvox but they look very similar, just dont expect the performance you'd get from a 'proper' domestic TV aerial ;) but they're ok as a compromise (after all its only when its raining, theres far better stuff to do than watch TV if its nice!). Yes thats me on the Firestorm, over the mountain at Cadwell Park.
Cheers
Phil

Quality @Phil_G ... too scared to take my Fazer on the track!!! Loved that bike- should never have sold it.

The recommendation on aerials for my Tv was excellent - the August DTA245 I bought off Fleabay for under £10 delivered and it works a treat. Thanks to @Phil_G who recommended it ..... one Happy Mrs!!! Game on Sat night!!! with her!!!

Hi all, I'm looking to install an exterior tv aerial socket on my t6 camper. I'm happy using the external Avtex stick-on aerial, I'd just like to be able to avoid having to trail the cable through an open window. Any tips regarding components, location and general installation method gratefully received, thanks.

I managed to fit mine through the 240V inlet which is a body mount rather than just a socket, alternatively could go under the bonnet

I did exactly the same, drilled a hole on the 240 inlet box (which is fixed to the side of the van) but left a good length of coaxial cable still inside the van.
On the end of the cable I fitted a female plug.
How it works is that I stick a magnetic Ariel on the outside and then pull the cable out of the 240v box a few feet and plug in the lead from the Ariel. Obviously if the Ariel is close enough the the 240v box to plug straight in then great (but it rarely is). When done I just push the cable back in, it won’t disappear as long as you have made the hole smaller than the female socket on the cable.
Hope you follow.....
