Very slight tap / knock over speed bumps at lower speeds - thoughts?

Right so knock update #594u83o689y20658723

Seems intermittent - few days ago was silent and all good. Today has been clunky as a f***er. Especially in the AM, and then was quiet for a bit, and then intermittent again.

I've had the van jacked up and checked everything - but nothing seems loose etc. Annoyingly couldn't get the wheel off as the last place to take the wheel off must have used a driver.

I'm wondering if it's something loose catching / fouling something when it moves to a certain place. Have attached a load of images here - can anyone see anything that doesn't look right to them? I've found some marking on the drive shaft (drivers side) which could be it - but I dont understand how the shock (nearest thing) would impact it? Interestingly there is some marking on the bottom of the shock (visible in image). So I wonder if I put something coloured on it to see if it transfers next drive.

Update #52672&283£444

Thismorning had some mad banging / clanking and vibration through the floor on drivers side so headed in to garage

Van has been on ramp for 2 hours and multiple mechanics can’t find anything

Only thing suggested would be to change / inspect the top mounts …. Uuuuuuugh

Have you/they checked the brake calipers as I suggested before? When not held properly they sound like top mount clanking and I could feel it through the floor when mine weren't right.

Take it for a run and drive on a set of cats eyes, if you get the noise, do it again while very gently pressing the brake pedal (very very lightly, don't need to really exert any braking effort), this will hold the caliper still. If the noise stops you know it's that.

Hiya mate

Yeh they checked the brakes for ‘chatter’ as they put it, and anything else untoward but didn’t find anything. Van was on ramp for ages with them checking everything they could.

If it starts up again tomorrow whilst I’m out I’ll give it a go on the brake over speed bumps and see if it stops.

hmm frustrating problem! Worth checking it out for yourself - use cats eyes though, much better as they're regular and keep the noise going/give you the opportunity to roll over a few with brakes off and on ;)

Yeh it is

And thismorn was the first time it sounded pretty serious / bad vibrations etc. interesting happened when I wasn’t really on any bumps / rough ground. So I’m stumped.

Classic as well - mechanics took it for a bezz and couldn’t hear anything

I’ve got same problem on mine, 21plate dsg kombi. Took it back to vw and they couldn’t find anything. But I felt I just got bombed off, bought it at lookers took it swansway under vw approved used warranty

I'm getting new rims and tracking done at @BognorMotors in the new year so will just have them have a really good look over the front end / get stuck in to the brakes etc.
Might just need pulling apart to find up what's wrong instead of prodding and poking.

May be worth asking VW to do the same if it's under warranty. Mine still is but got aftermarket suspension so going indi.

Any particular foot feel with the knock or no? Video here is how mine is when it's the worst - but Is very intermittent at this intensity. Tends to be more of a tap day to day.

Knock 1

Edit - you'll notice at end of vid over the last speedbump there's no noise. Mindboggling.

Won’t let me watch the video, but I do feel it through the pedal. It feels like my front driver wheel is loose. Vw said it drives perfectly normal, I’ve come from an x4 to this and it drives like shite, they blamed it on me coming from the car to the van. Then reminded them my crafter doesn’t drive like that, they just said it drives different to the crafter. Crafter is so smooth, that has agils cross climates on, t6.1 has plastic shite tyres till I decide what wheels I want and suspension.

I'll keep you looped as it sounds v similar to mine mate and if i find out what's what hopefully can let ya know. Is yours intermittent or constant?
I'm hoping it has something to do with brake calliper or top-mount or something that will only really become apparent taking things apart.

As said - 2 garages haven't been able to find anything so Really dunno what it could be. Hopefully top mount issue as it's relatively cheap to sort!

I've uprated mine -40mm with koni shocks and the difference is massive for day to day (even if not super smooth).

Yes please do, it’s fine at speed and better when it’s warmed up. Rubbish bumbling round town. Then sometimes it’s fine, weird. I’m thinking it didn’t rear its ugly head when they test drove it.
