VW All-in plan

The environmental charge has been around since the 90's - they do indeed get charged heartily for disposal.

Some garages itemise it, some bung it under sundries, some just build it into the cost when setting menu pricing. You've been paying it for 3 decades whether they've been itemising it separately or not.

The loan car depends on where you go. Insurance is getting stupid expensive so some have been charging a nominal fee for a while now.

Thanks for confirming it is normal/

I have seen the oil disposal itemised before, but this is the first time they have mentioned I need to pay anything over and above the All-In-Plan. Just seems odd that the garage have chosen to charge separately and over for it now when previously haven’t.

In my head I would have assumed it was built into the cost of the service in the same way the new oil is, as obviously the old oil has to be disposed off some how.

They did mention it, along with the charge for the curtesy car was a recent policy change by the Eastern Western Motor Group, and the guy sounded very apologetic when mentioning the cost when I was booking. Which is what initially got me thinking about it.

I’ve never been charged for either.
Oh, you have, they've just absorbed the cost into another charge and not itemised it separately. The common method is to crank the labour rate up a bit and hide it there. No garage can afford to give away the thick end of a tenner per punter for no return out of the kindness of their heart.

As for it being above the normal all in plan cost I can't comment because I'm not in it so have no knowledge of their fees.

Take an empty container and ask them to give you your old oil to take away. It is yours after all.

As for a courtesy car, I always book the first slot in the morning so that I can wait. By the time I'm bouncing from all the free coffee I can drink, plus filled a flask up, it's ready to go

They wont. Unless you have a waste oil carrier licence they would be committing and offence to hand it over to you.

Is it waste if you are taking it home for an alternative use?

I only thought about taking your own oil home as it's what I do with old tyres. Our local tip is fine with tyres as long as you don't take the piss.

Actually, thinking about it, you could use the oil as fuel to help burn your old tyres down the bottom of the garden. That would save a trip to the tip.

Hi I wonder if anyone could help clarify-
I’m about to buy an approved used van, which was registered 27/8/21.

It will come with 6 months approved used warranty which starts tomorrow and ends Sept 25 (so van will just be over 4 years).

If I then take the ‘All In’ that will run until the van is just over 6 years, so no longer eligible. So total of 2.5 year warranty.

So could I either -
Take out the All In in August 25 so it will renew just before it’s 6 years old, therefore getting nearly 4.5 year warranty. But the approved used would still be running so not sure I’ll be able.

Or not take out ‘All In’ until Sept 25 but cancel a month early in Aug 27 to then take out another 2 yrs, again getting nearly 4.5 years.

Or shall I take out the All In today (entering my reg it seems like it will let me) before the approved used warranty starts tomorrow. This would allow me to renew March 27 when the van is ~5.5 yrs therefore getting 4 yrs warranty.

I’ve asked VW customer service, they said ask the dealer, the dealer didn’t know much about it and said contact VW.

Thanks

If they're giving you the run around before you've even agreed to buy I'd go elsewhere. No shortage for sale out there.

Reminds me of the time I won the lottery and they wanted to pay me in two instalments….i told them that if they were going to mess me about like that they could give me my £1 back!!!

(There you go, my Irish joke for Paddy’s Day!!!)

I'm not sure you can cancel early and repurchase?

I canceled my VW Service Plan early to ensure I could take out the All In the day the factory warranty ended.

It's likely possible but it was a bit of a faff as I had to use up the service "early" and that needed a lot of 3 way conversations (and confusions) between me, the VW Service Manager and VW Finance. To be fair the dealer was completely fine, we just couldn't get through to someone at VW Finance to release the service funds for a while.

There was a 20% All In offer on recently that may swing your thoughts if that's still available.
